VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS vs. EDMONTON OILERS PREDICTIONS

The Golden Knights are on the outside looking in for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but that might not last long if they play like they did last time out in Calgary. Vegas posted an emphatic 6-1 road win against the first-place Flames, pulling to within two points of the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators, and one point of the Los Angeles Kings, in the Western Conference standings. Vegas has seven games remaining, while Dallas and Nashville have eight games left, and Los Angeles has just six.

Speaking of emphatic, Edmonton posted a 4-0 shutout win behind Mike Smith against the aforementioned Predators on Thursday night, helping VGK out in the process. That snapped a mini two-game slide for the Oilers, who have now allowed two or fewer goals in five of the past six outings, cashing the UNDER in five straight games.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 41-29-5
  • ATS: 31-44
  • O/U: 42-30-3

Vegas has had the look of a playoff team lately, going 7-1-1 across the past nine games, lighting the lamp four or more times in each of the past three games for an average of 5.33 goals per outing. Vegas has scored three or more times in eight of the past nine since March 24, too.

The Golden Knights have posted seven victories in the past nine games overall, while cashing in four of the past five on the road and four of the past five against winning teams, too. The Golden Knights are also 7-2 in the past nine inside the Western Conference, although just 3-8 in the past 11 as an underdog and an even worse 1-5 in the past six as a road 'dog. However, that last win as a road underdog came last time out in Calgary, spanking the Flames 6-1 on Thursday.

In terms of the totals, the OVER is 4-0 in the past four games overall for VGK, while going 6-1 in the past seven against winning teams. The OVER is 6-2 in the past eight when serving as an underdog, and the OVER is 4-0 in the past four against Western Conference teams, and 4-1 in the past five inside the Pacific Division.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 43-26-6
  • ATS: 35-40
  • O/U: 38-34-3

The Oilers rode the hot goaltending of Smith to a 4-0 shutout in Nashville, a result which actually helped the Golden Knights tremendously, keeping the Predators from adding points to their ledger. Edmonton is now 7-1-1 across the past nine games, and the offense has scored three or more goals in 14 of the past 18 outings.

Edmonton has won nine of its past 10 games at home, while going 35-16 in the past 51 games as a favorite. The Oilers are 7-2 in the past nine games overall, and inside the Western Conference, while rolling to an 18-5 mark in the past 23 games inside the Pacific Division. Edmonton is a dominant 10-1 in the past 11 games when favored at home, too.

For totals, the UNDER has cashed in five in a row for the Oilers, while going 4-0 in the past four against winning teams. However, the OVER is 7-1 in the past eight games at home, and 11-2 in the past 13 as a favorite, too.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS vs. EDMONTON OILERS BETTING CONCLUSION

This is a huge game, as VGK is still playing for its playoff lives, while the Oilers are just four points clear of the Los Angeles Kings for second place in the Pacific Division. A second-place finish in the Pacific would mean home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and there is a very real chance this could be a possible playoff preview if VGK is able to track down Los Angeles in the final two weeks.

Lately, it's all about the underdog and all about the road team in this series. The 'dog and road team is each 4-0 in the past four meetings, and the UNDER has connected in six of the past seven in this series. Vegas looked like it was on a mission in Calgary Thursday, and if it plays with the same desperation and determination, VGK is again the play on Saturday afternoon.
