CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. BOSTON BRUINS PREDICTIONS

The Hurricanes have had some goaltender issues, as starter Frederik Andersen is sidelined, and Antti Raanta was knocked out of Game 2 early due to a lower-body injury. Rookie Pyotr Kochetkov did a good job in relief, picking up the victory, but he didn't do so hot in his first-ever road start in the playoffs. Kochetkov allowed four goals on 28 shots in Game 3 in Boston, including a shorthanded goal to Charlie Coyle and power-play goals to David Pastrnak and Taylor Hall.

The Canes made things interesting with a goal midway through the third period, but that's as close as they could get. Head coach Bruce Cassidy made the proper adjustment by putting rookie Jeremy Swayman in the cage, and he allowed two goals on 27 shots for the win in his first appearance of the series.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour might turn back to Raanta for Game 4, as he warmed up and was available if needed in Game 3 after recovering. Look for the Canes to bounce back and take a 3-1 series lead back to Raleigh.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 56-21-8
  • ATS: 43-42
  • O/U: 40-41-4

The Hurricanes had won the first five meetings between the regular season and playoffs, and the winning margin was 22-4. It's difficult to maintain that kind of dominance, and the veteran Bruins side finally showed up and took advantage of a rookie goaltender making his first-ever playoff start on the road.

Carolina saw its eight-game win streak snapped, and they were likely due for a stinker. They played their worst game in weeks, yet still only lost by two goals. The Hurricanes have posted four wins in the past five on the road, although they're 1-4 in the past five as a road underdog.

For totals, the OVER is 5-0-1 in the past six games overall, while going 5-1-1 in the past seven on the road. The OVER is also 3-0-2 in the past five games as an underdog, and 4-0-2 in the past six as a road 'dog, while going 9-1-1 in the past 11 against winning teams.

BOSTON BRUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 52-28-5
  • ATS: 34-51
  • O/U: 39-39-7

The B's finally showed up, as the veteran offensive stars came through and took advantage of a rookie goaltender. Kochetkov was frazzled, and veterans Coyle, Brad Marchand, Pastrnak and Hall came through with goals. Boston overcame a strong offensive Carolina team, and a delay on a strange situation where fans knocked a piece of glass by the penalty box onto a security member. The B's did a good job shaking off the distractions and a better team for a win.

Boston has posted 25 wins in the past 37 games overall, while going 7-3 in the past 10 games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Round. They're also 41-17 in the past 58 games as a favorite, although just 1-4 in the past five playoff games when favored.

The OVER is 3-0-1 in the past four games overall for the Bruins, while going 3-1-1 in the past five Quarterfinals games. However, the UNDER is 5-0-2 in the past seven home games, while going 4-0-2 in the past six as a home fave.

CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. BOSTON BRUINS PREDICTIONS

Can Kochetkov and the Hurricanes bounce back in Game 4? Will it even be Kochetkov, or will it be Raanta, the veteran? We'll likely see Brind'Amour make adjustments in Game 4, and the veteran coach should get his team snapped back on track toward a series win.

I like Carolina on the road, despite the fact they took a lot of penalties in Game 3, they played undisciplined at times, and they just looked poor at times. The Hurricanes were one of the best teams in the NHL during the regular season, and they're still easily the best team in this series. Look for another higher-scoring win, as the Canes take a 3-1 series lead back to Raleigh with three chances to polish off the B's.
