FLORIDA PANTHERS vs. WASHINGTON CAPITALS PREDICTIONS

Game 1 of this series went to the visiting Washington Capitals, as they won 4-2 as underdogs. In Game 2, the President's Trophy winning Florida Panthers restored order with a dominating 5-1 victory. However, on home ice, the Capitals, heavy underdogs in Game 3, erupted for a 6-1 victory as the OVER cashed for the first time in the series. The Caps now lead 2-1 against the Cats, with another game set for home ice.

The Panthers actually took a 1-0 lead at just 2:45 of the first period in Game 3, as Jonathan Huberdeau beat Ilya Samsonov. But T.J. Oshie answered with a power-play goal in the closing seconds of the first to tie it up. It got worse for the Panthers. Marcus Johansson and Trevor van Riemsdyk registered goals in the second, while Alexander Ovechkin (PP), John Carlson (EN) and Garnet Hathaway tallied markers in the third to put a bow on the scoring. Hathaway's goal with 42 seconds left beat Sergei Bobrovsky, who returned to the net, and that goal ended up handing UNDER bettors a bad beat.

FLORIDA PANTHERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 59-20-6
  • ATS: 43-42
  • O/U: 45-32-8

The Panthers won the President's Trophy during the regular season, posting an NHL-best 122 points, three more than the Colorado Avalanche. However, that doesn't always insure playoff success, even in the first round. The last team to win a Stanley Cup while also securing the President's Trophy was the Chicago Blackhawks back in 2012-13. The last team to advance to the Conference Finals was the New York Rangers back in 2014-15. It's been the first or second round and done, so history is working against the Panthers.

The Panthers have won 15 of the past 21 games on the road despite the Game 3 setback. They're also an impressive 19-7 in the past 26 as a road favorite, too. However, Florida is 1-4 in the past five playoff games when favored, and they're also 1-4 in the past five in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Round.

The UNDER is 8-3-4 in the previous 15 games, and probably should've come through in Game 3, if not for a total difference making goal in the final minute. The UNDER is 4-1-1 in the past six games on the road, and 5-1 in the past six playoff games as a favorite. The UNDER is 8-3-4 in the past 15 games overall, too.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 46-27-12
  • ATS: 44-41
  • O/U: 47-34-4

The Capitals have registered just two wins in the past seven games overall, but those two victories are in Games 1 and 3. They're still 2-5 in the past seven playoff games as an underdog, but again, both of those wins are in this series.

For totals, the UNDER is 5-2-1 in the past eight games overall, while going 30-14-7 in the past 51 playoff games as an underdog. The OVER is 6-2-2 in the past 10 games at home, while going 13-4-2 in the previous 19 against Eastern Conference foes.

FLORIDA PANTHERS vs. WASHINGTON CAPITALS CONCLUSION

The Panthers are looking for the bounce back. Florida has managed an 8-20 record in the past 28 trips to the nation's capital, while the home team has won six of the past seven games. The OVER is 5-0 in the past five meetings in D.C., while going 9-2 in the past 11 meetings overall. We should see another higher-scoring game, too.

Look for the Panthers to square this series, and take it back to South Florida for Game 5 on Wednesday. It should also be a high-scoring game, so play Florida nd the OVER for a nice parlay opportunity.
