BOSTON BRUINS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

This series has been all about the home cooking. Carolina dominated in the first two games in Raleigh, winning 5-1 in Game 1, and 5-2 in Game 2 despite losing starting goaltender Antti Raanta to an injury early in the game. Rookie Pyotr Kochetkov took over in relief and picked up the win. The rookie then started Game 3, and that's when the series shifted. Boston doubled up Kochetkov and Carolina by a 4-2 score in Game 3 as the total pushed, and then Boston ran away with a 5-2 victory in Game 4 to level the series.

The B's used Linus Ullmark in net for both games in Raleigh, and he was worked over. Jeremy Swayman took the reins in Boston and allowed a total of four goals, so it's almost a certainty that we'll see Swayman against Raanta. Frederik Andersen has been skating on his own, as he makes his way back from a lower-body injury, but there are no indications Carolina's No. 1 netminder will be back anytime soon.

You have to figure at some point that the road team is going to come through, and the B's have the momentum in the series right now. But the Canes had it heading to Boston, too, and were a completely different team on the road. Expect the home trend to continue, at least for Game 5.

  • SU: 53-28-5
  • ATS: 35-51
  • O/U: 39-39-8

Head coach Bruce Cassidy made the switch from Ullmark to Swayman in the crease, and it has paid dividends. That's not to say Ullmark might not have fed off the home crowd energy and had similar results, but it appears it's the Swayman Show now.

Boston heads into this game with at least two goals in each of the past three playoff games, averaging 3.0 goals per outing so far. The B's have yielded two or more goals in all four playoff games, and five in a row overall.

The B's have won six of the past nine games overall, but they're just 1-4 in the past five games on the road, including 0-2 in Raleigh, losing the first two playoff games by a combined score of 10-3.

On totals, it's all about the OVER, going 4-0-1 in the past five for the Bruins, and 4-0 in the previous four on the road, while also cashing in each of the past four as an underdog.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 56-22-8
  • ATS: 43-43
  • O/U: 40-41-5

Andersen remains sidelined due to the knee injury he suffered at Colorado back on April 16, and Jordan Martinook will be sidelined for Game 4 due to a lower-body injury. Derek Stepan will likely draw in for Marty.

The Hurricanes had won eight consecutive games before dropping both outings in Boston. They're 7-0 in the previous seven games as a favorite, however. The Canes have also won five of the past seven games overall, while the home team has cashed in each of the past four meetings. The favorite is 5-0 in the past five meetings in this series, too.

For totals, the OVER has connected at a 6-0-1 clip across the past seven outings for the Hurricanes, while the OVER is 5-2 in the past seven home games, while the OVER is 4-0 in the past four as a favorite, too.

BOSTON BRUINS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

The Caniacs will be at full throat at PNC Arena for Game 5. When the Carolina faithful sent the Hurricanes off to Boston, the Canes held a 2-0 series lead, outscoring Boston 10-3. Now, the Canes come back looking for some home cooking, in need of a victory with the series square at 2-2.

We haven't seen the road team win yet in this series, and we'll have to wait a little bit longer. The Bruins just haven't been the same team away from home, not just in this series, but overall. This might be a lower scoring game, too, despite the fact the trends point to the OVER for both teams. Call it a gut feeling, call it whatever you want, but as the intensity of a playoff series ratchets up, the scoring usually goes way down. We've seen a lot of scoring, with the OVER 3-0-1 in this series so far, and the OVER 20-12 in 32 playoff games overall among all teams. But look for goals to be at more of a premium in this game, and we might even have our first overtime game, too.
