Flamengo vs. Bayern Munich Predictions, Odds and Pick

Flamengo will face Bayern Munich on Sunday at 4:00 ET in the Club World Cup Round of 16 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Flamengo is set to face Bayern Munich, the runners-up of Group C, in a Round of 16 match that few would have anticipated just a week ago. The Brazilian team, initially considered long shots in Group C (which included Chelsea), surprised many by defeating the Conference League winners.

Bayern Munich, expected to advance from Group D easily, finished second after losing 1-0 to Benfica on matchday three, partially due to fielding an essentially rotated squad.

Entering the tournament as an enigma, Flamengo has extended its unbeaten streak to 11 matches. This impressive run will be put to the test against the Bundesliga champions. Still, Felipe Luis's team will have the advantage of playing this knockout fixture in Florida, a location they are comfortable with.

Despite Flamengo's surprising performance in the tournament so far, bookmakers clearly favor Bayern Munich, giving them a 58% chance of advancing to the quarter-finals in the Flamengo vs. Bayern Munich odds. While the Brazilian side has impressed, they are not heavily favored by the betting markets. Could this provide an opportunity for bettors?

Analysis of the Match

Bayern Munich will face Flamengo for a Club World Cup quarter-final spot - and it won't be an easy task. The Brazilian side is undefeated, topped their group, and have shown they can battle with Europe's best after that 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Bayern's tournament started with a 10-0 win over Auckland, but they've found it trickier than they had hoped. The Bavarians edged past Boca, and the loss to Benfica meant they finished 2nd in their group. They will need to improve if they want to win this tournament.

But one player that has stood out massively is Michael Olise. He scored two and assisted another two against Auckland before he grabbed the late winner against Boca.

He is able to drift inside and finish with his left; this is what makes him dangerous against a well-drilled Brazilian side. Only the very best can squeeze through, but Olise is firmly on that list.

There's no need to hype up Olise. He provided 29 contributions in 34 Bundesliga appearances last campaign, as well as five goals in the Champions League. He's fast, powerful, and can finish chances a dozen different ways. Stopping him will be vital for Flamengo.

Flamengo Analysis and Form

Flamengo has been flawless in the Club World Cup. With still only a few defeats to his name as he nears 50 matches in charge, head coach Filipe Luis is showing how he has pulled this team of superstars together. They will fancy themselves to topple yet another European giant on Sunday.

It wasn't the prettiest of games, as they drew with LAFC in their final group match. Having already qualified, they could rest key players and await their opponents in the knockout stage.

This will be a daunting task for the Brazilian club, but Filipe Luis has got his team playing incredibly well. He'll want to test himself against one of Europe's best teams on the global stage. The odds favor Bayern, but Flamengo has shown plenty to suggest they can cause problems for the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich Analysis and Form

We haven't learned too much about Bayern at this Club World Cup. Their emphatic win against Auckland City was expected, and they did just about enough to squeeze past a dogged Boca side.

Having already qualified, they rotated against a Benfica side that needed at least a point to secure their spot in the next round. Without Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman, and Harry Kane, they didn't look right.

And so this will be a real test for Vincent Kompany. His team is one of the favorites to win the tournament. Still, with Brazilian teams flying in the US, he won't be taking this lightly - expect a similar lineup to the one that hammered Auckland City in the opening round.

Do they have what it takes to go all the way? Punters will have their doubts, and there will be a fair few siding with Flamengo after their heroics against Chelsea.

Head-to-Head Matchup

Flamengo are set to meet German opposition for the first time in their history, having previously faced only English teams in intercontinental matchups.

Before their impressive 3-1 group stage win over Chelsea, Flamengo had clashed with Liverpool twice, securing one victory and suffering one defeat.

In eight intercontinental contests, Flamengo has maintained a strong record, with only one loss and one draw, the latter being a 1-1 stalemate against Los Angeles FC in the Club World Cup and Intercontinental Cup.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, has experience against Brazilian opposition, having faced Cruzeiro in the 1976 Intercontinental Cup. The Bavarians claimed a 2-0 home win and held Cruzeiro to a 0-0 draw away in Brazil.

Bayern have fared well against South American teams, boasting three victories and a draw in their encounters.

Their sole Club World Cup defeat was a narrow 1-0 loss to Benfica, underscoring their impressive performance in intercontinental competitions.

Team News and Predicted Lineups

Flamengo possible starting lineup:

Rossi; Varela, Pereira, Ortiz, Lucas, Pulgar, Jorginho, de Arrascaeta, Gerson, Araujo, Henrique

Bayern Munich's possible starting lineup:

Neuer; Guerreiro, Stanisic, Tah, Laimer, Goretzka, Kimmich, Olise, Gnabry, Coman, Kane

Flamengo's settled defence and midfield have been a pleasure to watch at the Club World Cup. Both Leo Ortiz and Leo Pereira have been solid in the heart of the defence, while Gerson has stood out massively in his no.8 role. Keep an eye on Giorgian de Arrascaeta tucked in behind the striker.

Bayern are likely to line up with the same starting XI that faced Auckland on Matchday One. Olise, Kane, and Coman will be drafted back in after missing out on the Benfica tie. If fully fit, all three will cause Flamengo plenty of problems in this intriguing affair.

Odds Discussion

Flamengo, who are currently the underdogs against Bayern in the round of 16, also kicked off as underdogs in their two most recent fixtures against European opposition. When facing Liverpool in the 2019 Club World Cup final, Flamengo were the major underdogs, and ahead of their group stage win against Chelsea, Filipe Luis' side emerged as winners.

Their European powerhouse opponents in the knockout stages, Bayern Munich, finished second in their respective group and, therefore, has the unenviable task of taking on Flamengo. Despite the Brazilian side's impressive displays this summer, Bayern enters the fixture accompanied by a -0.75 Asian Handicap. That will require Bayern Munich to win by a two-goal margin to return full profits, whilst a one-goal margin victory secures half profits.

Elsewhere in the betting, Both Teams to Score - No is the favorite at odds-against quotes. Despite Flamengo registering a trio of strikes against Chelsea and ending the group stage with six goals, the bookmakers appear intent on leaning towards Bayern emerging as the victors to nil.

In the player-focused markets, England captain Harry Kane is the only player priced below Evens to score at any time in the match. The Bayern hitman features in the United States after scoring 38 goals in 46 games in all competitions during his first title-winning season at the Bavarian club.

BEST BET: Michael Olise to score or assist (+100)
