Newcastle vs Everton Predictions, Odds and Betting Picks

Everton's final farewell to Goodison Park ended in victory last weekend. It was an emotionally charged afternoon for all Toffees supporters and players alike. Now they must dust themselves down and travel to face a Newcastle side with plenty of jeopardy on the line on the season's final day.

Newcastle must win their final Premier League outing of 2024/25. Failure to win and unkind results elsewhere might mean that Champions League qualification is fumbled at the final hurdle. Eddie Howe and his eleven, alongside the supporters, will be raring to go from the first whistle. Might the mismatch in determination decide the outcome?

Analysis of the Match

Newcastle United are on the brink of securing a second Champions League qualification in four seasons, despite a recent 1-0 setback against Arsenal. Eddie Howe’s side has their fate firmly in their own hands, thanks to a superior goal difference of +22, compared to Chelsea's +20 and Aston Villa’s +6.

With Chelsea and Nottingham Forest locking horns in a decisive clash, Newcastle could potentially settle for a draw against Everton. However, the Magpies will be eager to solidify their place in the top five as swiftly as possible.

St James’ Park is set for a nerve-wracking afternoon, especially against an in-form Everton side. Yet, Newcastle have displayed impressive home form, boasting six consecutive victories, including successes over top-table rivals Nottingham Forest and Chelsea.

A key concern is the fitness of Aleksander Isak, who has been instrumental this season with 23 goals and six assists. Newcastle, who created numerous first-half chances against Arsenal (2.25 xG) but failed to capitalize, will likely rely on their Swedish striker to overcome Everton, known for having the second-best away defensive record in the league with just 21 goals conceded.

The Toffees have experienced just two losses in their last eight away games—both narrow 1-0 defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool. Having bid farewell to Goodison Park in style, David Moyes’s side could finish this season with 48 points, equaling their 2023/2024 total, despite last season’s eight-point deduction for breaches of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

Newcastle Analysis and Form

Newcastle succumbed to defeat at the Emirates on Sunday, meaning they may well need to win on the final day of the season to secure a place in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the atmosphere at St. James’s Park is good. The team have been in exceptional form since beating Liverpool in the EFL Cup Final in March. Wrapping up a place in the top five would be a nice way to round off a memorable season.

Eddie Howe’s side have been in exceptional form in front of their own fans, which will give them confidence ahead of the Everton clash. They have won their last six Premier League matches in front of their own fans, netting an average of 3.33 goals per game.

Alexander Isak was absent in last week’s defeat against Arsenal. Newcastle have failed to win any of their three league matches that the Swede hasn’t started this season. However, he is likely to return here.

There will be a buoyant atmosphere at St. James’s Park, so expect Newcastle to put their best foot forward. The likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Jacob Murphy are all in fine fettle and can have an impact here.

Everton Analysis and Form

Everton secured a 2-0 win in their last ever game at Goodison Park last weekend. The Toffees were on top right from the get go in what was an emotionally charged match. Southampton offered very little in the way of resistance, so Moyes will know his team face a much tougher test here.

Moyes returned to Everton in January, taking over from Sean Dyche. There has been some progress under the Scotsman, particularly going forward. The Toffees have scored an average of 1.44 goals per Premier League game since the managerial change, 0.65 more than they did under Dyche this season. Moyes has lost just four of his 18 league matches during his second stint at Everton.

The Toffees are up to 13th in the table after the win over Southampton. The threat of relegation never really loomed this season, but the focus will be on steering the club back into Europe in the years to come.

There is no incentive for Everton to win this match, but they will want to give a good account of themselves. They have won their last two games, netting five goals in the process, which will give them confidence ahead of the trip to Newcastle.

Head to Head

It was 0-0 when these sides met at Goodison Park back in October. A similar result here simply won’t do for Newcastle in their hunt for Champions League qualification.

It’s been a fairly even contest in recent seasons. There have been three draws and two wins each in the last seven Premier League meetings between these two. The Magpies have often found it difficult to get a result against the Toffees. They haven’t beaten them since April 2023, when they demolished Everton in a 4-1 win at Goodison Park.

That result was a rarity in this fixture. The away side has won just two of the last 14 Premier League meetings between these two clubs. That doesn’t bode well for the Toffees, who haven’t won at St James’ Park since a Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace secured a 2-1 win in 2019.

Both teams have scored in two of the past six meetings between the two sides. The team that scores first usually gets the result.

Team News and Predicted Lineups

Newcastle Predicted Lineup: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Botman, Murphy; Tonali, Guimares; Barnes, Wilson, Gordon

Everton Predicted Lineup: Pickford; Mykolenko, Keane, O’Brien, Young; Garner, Gueye; Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil; Beto

There are three guaranteed absentees for Newcastle. We won’t see Lewis Hall, Joelinton, or Matt Targett until next season but there are doubts about another couple of key men. Kieran Trippier hasn’t played since being forced off against Brighton back on May 4th. Latest reports show he will be unavailble despite only a minor calf injury.

The big story for Newcastle is their key man, Alexander Isak. The Swedish international missed last weekend’s 1-0 loss at Arsenal and is a doubt for the final day. He would be a big miss for the Magpies. Newcastle have played four league matches without their talismanic frontman this season. They failed to win any and scored just one goal via a penalty.

It’s very much the same story for Everton. Seamus Coleman, James Tarkowski, Orel Mangala and Jesper Lindstrom won’t play again this season. The only maybe for them is Jarrad Branthwaite, who was forced off in the 74th minute of the Toffees’ 2-0 win over Southampton last week. He could miss this one with a hamstring strain.
