UEFA Champions League Semifinals Picks Predictions, Odds
VI Editorial Production Manager
UEFA is back for Champions League semifinal fixtures that begin on Tuesday, April 26 and conclude on Wednesday, May 4. Below are best bets, picks, predictions and odds to consider for action this week.
VILLARREAL vs. LIVERPOOL
- Date: Tuesday, May 3
- Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
- Venue: Estadio de La Ceramica
- Location: Villarreal, Spain
Liverpool ML (-140)
Liverpool is given an overall cheap minus-value to win the match here, and seems to be the safest bet on the board. The Reds have won nine of their last 11 UEFA league matches and will look to keep top momentum going with the Premier League title still up for grabs. Villarreal could've lost by much more in Leg 1, as Liverpool missed a lot of easy goals early in the match but still won by -1.5 goals. If Villarreal attacks then Liverpool will exploit them as they did in the second half of Leg 1, and if the Spanish club sits back to defend then they will not catch the aggregate 2-0 score. This is a pick your poison match for Villarreal fans, as Liverpool just mismatches them in every way.
REAL MADRID vs. MANCHESTER CITY
- Date: Wednesday, May 4
- Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
- Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
- Location: Madrid, Spain
Over 2.5 (-185)
This is a bit expensive, but there isn't a whole lot of conviction in other markets hitting. Maybe Manchester City to win at +105 is a better play, but Real Madrid has won five straight league matches on a Wednesday and is at home after scoring three goals on the road. Madrid has the momentum it seems despite being down on aggregate, so taking a winner here could go either way in my opinion. The goal total has much more merit, Real Madrid going Over 2.5 in eight of its last 11 league matches while Man City has gone Over in seven of 11.
Also, Santiago Bernabeu is seeing an average of 3.2 goals scored per UEFA league match, which translates to a 4-1 O/U record. Real Madrid has seen the Over hit in 13 straight UEFA matches inside Santiago Bernabeu when playing on a Wednesday, while also seeing the BTS hit in 11 straight UEFA Knockout Stage matches when playing in Spain. The goal total going Over has hit in three straight UEFA league meetings, and four straight overall for Real Madrid.
