The Padres went into the series atop the NL West standings, while the Rockies were last in the division. Prior to the series, the Padres held just a half game advantage in the division over the second place Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Leading up to the series, the Padres handily swept a four-game series on the road vs. the Chicago Cubs by a total margin of 45-10. Meanwhile, the Rockies were swept in a three-game series at home vs. the Cleveland Guardians in interleague play. All three losses were by two or less runs. 

Martinez has allowed 52 hits, 25 walks, and eight home runs, while tallying 56 strikeouts. Marquez has given up 81 hits, 22 walks, and 13 home runs, in addition to tossing 59 strikeouts. 

In his last outing on June 11, Martinez allowed one earned run, five hits, and three walks while striking out nine batters in 5.2 innings vs. the Rockies. In Marquez’s last game vs. the Padres on June 12, he went 7 innings while throwing six strikeouts with no walks and giving up two earned runs. 

The Padres and Rockies have split the first four games this season, which came in a set in San Diego from June 10-12. 

Prior to the series, the Padres ranked tied for second in RBI (299) and 10th in on-base percentage (.319), but 23rd in home runs (54) and 24th in slugging percentage (.379). Third baseman Manny Machado leads the Padres in batting average (.328), home runs (11), RBI (43), on-base percentage (.400), and hits (80). First baseman Eric Hosmer was second on the team in hits (64) and batting average (.288). 

Going into the set, the Rockies ranked third in batting average (.258), ninth in on-base percentage (.320), 15th in RBI (267), 17th in slugging percentage (.388), and 23rd in home runs (54). The Rockies are led offensively by a pair of first baseman. C.J. Cron is tops for the Rockies in home runs (14), RBI (44), and hits (71). Connor Joe leads the team in on-base percentage (.360) and is second in hits (64). 

Heading into the series, the Padres were 41-24 SU and 36-29 overall against the spread. The Padres were 25-10 against the spread on the road. For over/under, the Padres are 29-34-2 overall and 19-15-1 on the road. 

Prior to the set, the Rockies were 27-37 SU and 30-24 overall against the spread. The Rockies were 18-17 against the spread at home. Regarding over/under, the Rockies were 32-30-2 overall and 18-16-1 at home. 

Expect offensive fireworks during the contest. The game will be high-scoring in the Mile High atmosphere and the Padres will prevail over the host Rockies.
