The Mets and the Padres begin a three-game set at Petco Park tonight as New York hits the middle portion of its 10-game trip to California. After dropping the first two games against the Dodgers, the Mets enter this contest having won their past two, earning a split with the team nipping at their heels for the NL's top spot. It doesn't get any easier, though, as they'll head to San Diego to face the NL's current third-best team.

Following a rough stretch in which the Friars lost seven of nine, including ending the run with a four-game losing skid, they have bounced back to win three-straight and come into this showdown with some momentum. The oddsmakers like their chances to keep it rolling at home against the NL's best team with San Diego currently installed at -120 on the moneyline at Caesars. The Padres enter the game on a strong pitching run, with their last three starters allowing just one combined run in 17 innings of work. Blake Snell gets the nod in tonight's series opener. Snell, the 2018 AL Cy Young winner, has struggled since that dominant season, posting just one sub-4.00-era since.

Although he sports a 4.80 ERA this season in 15 innings of work, Snell has allowed only 16 baserunners and opponents are hitting a paltry .157 against the southpaw. That presents an interesting matchup since the Mets lead the majors in team batting average at .264. There are two players in the Mets projected starting lineup who have homered off of Snell in their careers: Pete Alonso and Starling Marte. You can head over to Caesars right now and bet either Alonso (+325) or Marte (+700) to collect their second dingers off the San Diego southpaw tonight.

On the other side, New York is sending out Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco is 6-1 on the campaign and the Mets have won five of his past six starts. He's been boom-or-bust this season, allowing two earned runs or fewer in seven of his ten starts, but at least four earned runs in the other three. While opponents are hitting .255 against Carrasco this season, they've haven't been hitting him hard, as he's allowed just a .355 slugging percentage and only given up three homers in 57 innings.

Jurickson Profar has had strong success against Carrasco in his career, going 3-5 with a homer. Profar is +800 at Caesars to homer tonight, -224 to collect at least one hit and +133 to have over 1.5 total bases. Profar is the only Padre who has ever homered off of Carrasco and the Friars are among MLB's lowest homerun hitting teams (tied for 26th).
