The Ravens and Patriots both enter week three with a 1-1 record straight up and against the spread. After thrashing the Jets in week one, Baltimore blew a 21-point halftime lead at home against the Dolphins and lost outright 42-38 in week two. The Patriots also lost to Miami in week one by a final score of 20-7 before going on to pick up a 17-14 road win in Pittsburgh in week two.

The week three matchup between the Patriots and Ravens will be New England’s first home game of the season. The teams most recently met at Gillette Stadium in November of 2020, when a Cam Newton-led Patriots squad grinded its way to a 23-17 win.

The Ravens open as three-point road favorites with a total of 44 points for this year’s matchup. All three of the Patriots’ games this season have opened with the favorite being valued at a field goal or less. The favorite went on the win and cover in both weeks one and two.

After struggling to run the ball in its season-opening win against the Jets, the Ravens got back to their bread and butter against the Dolphins. Baltimore ran for 155 yards on 25 carries, led by Lamar Jackson with 119 yards and a score. Jackson also had success throwing the ball for the second consecutive week. The fifth-year starter logged 318 passing yards and three touchdowns on just 29 attempts.

However, the Baltimore defense couldn’t carry momentum from its week one performance against the Jets into its game against Miami. Tua Tagovailoa torched the Ravens’ secondary with 469 passing yards and six touchdowns – both career-highs by a wide margin for the Alabama product – to lead the improbable comeback.

Baltimore will attempt to get back on track in what will be much of the team’s first look at a Mac Jones-led offense that moved the ball well but faltered in the red zone in Pittsburgh. The Patriots used a balanced attack (252 passing yards, 124 rushing yards) to reach the Steelers’ 20-yard line three times but only found the paydirt once.

New England was able to hang on to win and cover as 2.5-point favorites due to its defense, which held the Steelers to 243 yards and 4.2 yards per play, well below the New England’s offensive mark of 376 yards and 5.7 yards per play. After boasting the NFL’s third best scoring defense at 19.4 points allowed per game in 2021, the Patriots are surrendering just 17 points per game through two games despite battling injuries on that side of the ball.

Bill Belichick and John Harbaugh are among the three longest-tenured head coaches in the NFL. The duo possesses a combined 38 years of head coaching experience with their current teams. During that span, they’ve met 11 times, with Belichick’s Patriots prevailing with seven wins, all of which came during the regular season.

Baltimore will look to retain its spot atop the AFC North, while New England will aim to keep up with Buffalo and Miami in the AFC East.

The game will be broadcast on CBS and is set to kickoff 1 p.m./10 a.m. EST/PST.
