PointsBet launched its online sportsbook in New York this week on Tuesday. When mobile sports betting first launched in the state this month, PointsBet was among one of the notable absences from the market. Only four sportsbook operators opened up on the day of the statewide mobile launch on January 8th.

These online sportsbooks that launched day of were FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, and BetRivers and they launched when they were eligible. That left five additional conditionally licensed operators who had yet to launch, with PointsBet among them. The others were BetMGM, Bally Bet, Resorts World, and WynnBet, all of which still had to meet regulatory requirements in order to launch in the state.

Since then, BetMGM was able to launch last week in New York. The others will be approved on a rolling basis as they meet the necessary requirements. PointsBet has since also met the necessary requirements and was able to launch on Tuesday.

PointsBet has been waiting for this launch since it’s November 8th selection by the New York State Gaming Commission as one of its selections for New York mobile sports betting. The Australian-based company announced its excitement for the New York launch at that time. The company named it as a milestone, especially considering how large the New York sports betting market is expected to get, revenue wise.

PointsBet has an exclusive sports betting partnership with NBC Sports, which will give it a leg up against the competition. The company feels that its reputation helped it to secure this access to New York’s sports betting market.

PointsBet will also be launching in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has awarded a sports wagering and interactive gaming operator license to the company. And, because of its exclusive partnership with Penn National Gaming, PointsBet will be able to offer online sports betting and internet casino products in the state.

The PointsBet USA CEO, Johnny Aitken, expressed his excitement for this move in a media release. As Pennsylvania is one of the top five sports betting states in the United States at this time, this access is incredibly important. Aitken expressed his hope that the company will be able to establish itself in this already booming sports betting market.

Through its exclusive sports betting partnership deal with NBC Sports, PointsBet will again be able to set itself apart from the competition when it comes to Pennsylvania. Comcast Corporation’s headquarters is in Pennsylvania, after all. PointsBet will be able to capitalize on gameday integration across NBC Sports Philadelphia. This is the broadcast home for the 76ers, Flyers, and the Phillies, important Pennsylvania professional sports teams.

The partnership with NBC Sports gives PointsBet around the clock, multi-platform media and marketing opportunities throughout its portfolio of events. PointsBet’s USA Chief Marketing Officer, Kyle Christensen, stated what a key asset NBC Philadelphia is to the NBC Sports brand. He feels this brand recognition will be key in reaching new customers and making a name for the brand in the market.
