UFC 297 Betting Results
The first major UFC card in 2024 wasn't filled with highlight reel finishes but UFC 297 did see two new champions get crowned on January 20, 2024.
The Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada took in back-to-back championship fights in the main and co-main event and both lasted five rounds.
The main event featured a grueling five-round clash between South African Dricus du Plessis and American favorite Sean Strickland for the vacant UFC Middleweight Championship. In a very tight fight, du Plessis outpointed Strickland with relentless pressure and powerful counterstrikes, earning a split decision victory (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) and etching his name as the new 185-pound UFC champion.
This bout was as tight as the odds, with du Plessis closing as a -115 favorite over Strickland (-105).
In the co-main event, Raquel Pennington fought off early submission attempts and defeated a gassed Mayra Bueno Silva via unanimous decision to capture the vacant UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship.
Four of the five fights on the main card went to the scorecards and the fifth could have as well but heavy favorite Mike Malott (-400) was stunned by an improbable comeback by Neil Magny in the final minute of the fight to win by stoppage.
Magny cashed as a +300 underdog and the was the them of UFC 297 with upsets taking place in seven of the 12 fights. Bettors looking for extended action and playing the clock also flourished with the 'over' going 9-3.
