Tennessee vs Purdue Picks & Prediction

The only region left with the top two seeds remaining is the Midwest as Purdue and Tennessee hook up in Detroit for the third spot in the Final Four.

Of the four Elite Eight games this weekend, three of them are rematches from the regular season. Purdue held off Tennessee, 71-67 in late November as 3-point favorites in Hawaii as both teams shot poorly from the floor.

The Volunteers were held to 33% shooting, while the Boilermakers shot 35% from the field. However, Purdue benefited from 48 free throw attempts, although they made only 29 of those, including eight misses from All-American center Zach Edey.

Tennessee had a huge start to the second half in its Sweet 16 win over Creighton by out-scoring the Bluejays 21-4 after halftime.

The Volunteers knocked out the Bluejays, 82-75 as 3.5-point favorites, marking the first time under head coach Rick Barnes that Tennessee has covered at least two games in the NCAA Tournament.

Purdue followed up its 39-point blowout of Utah State to eliminate Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 as 4.5-point favorites, 80-68. Edey torched the Bulldogs for 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Purdue shot 57% from the field.

Tennessee has done a solid job of limiting the success of opponents on 2-point attempts in the tournament.

The Vols have not allowed any of their first three foes to shoot higher than 43% on 2-point tries, as they are 8th in the country in defensive 2-point field goal percentage.
