2022 LOUISIANA RAGIN CAJUNS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

With a 13-1 record last season and winners of the Sun Belt West Division four years in a row, backing the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns over 8.5 wins (-120) is a solid play here. This year will be a fresh look for the Ragin Cajuns as they have a new head coach in Michael Desormeaux. Desormeaux is a former Louisiana quarterback and already has a 1-0 record as head coach after defeating Marshall in the New Orleans Bowl last season. Louisiana will have some rosters spots to fill as they need to decide on a starting quarterback and have just one offensive lineman returning.

Despite all the turnover, Louisiana is still favored to win the West division. While they may not win 13 games like last season, winning more than eight and a half games is defiantly doable. Their schedule plays in their favor as they do not have to play Georgia State, Appalachian State, or Coastal Carolina from the East Division.

Backing the Ragin Cajuns over 8.5 wins (-120) is the best preseason bet to lock in for Louisiana. They lost their share of important players after last season, but Desormeaux still has talent to work with including running back Chris Smith (844 rushing yards) and receivers Peter LeBlanc and Michael Jefferson. The defense lost talent as well, however, they have built depth over the last few seasons so it will be more about guys stepping into bigger roles as opposed to fresh guys who need to learn the system. I’m not sure they see the same success as recent years, but they should be able to cover the win total.

The Sun Belt Conference is more talented than ever with the additions of Marshall, Southern Miss, Old Dominion, and James Madison. This is great for the conference but will make things more difficult for Louisiana to repeat as the Sun Belt Conference Champions. For this reason, I am not crazy about the value in backing Louisiana to win the Sun Belt Championship. Sure, they won the conference last season and have won the West division four years in a row, but with a new head coach and plenty of missing pieces to fill it may be another year or two before they can get back there. Staying away from this bet as there are other teams that offer more value in this conference.

Levi Lewis finished the 2021 season with 2,916 passing yards (236-390), 20 TD, and four interceptions. This kid is a lot of fun to watch and has even been compared to Kyler Murray in terms of size and play style. Lewis would need to have a heck of a season and them some to find himself in contention towards the end of the season. While this is a long shot and not recommended, Lewis has the speed and arm to put up big numbers every game this season.
