2022 OLD DOMINION MONARCHS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Old Dominion finished last season with a 6-7 SU record and will join Marshall and Southern Miss as teams from Conference USA joining the Sun Belt Conference. The Monarchs have had four straight losing seasons, but second year head coach Ricky Rahne is determined to put this program on the right track. This is a team that could make a huge splash in the Sun Belt, but their schedule is tough and the defense had some key departures after the conclusion of last season, including leading tackler Jordan Young and Cornerback Roger Cray.

Old Dominion’s offense will have 10 players returning including four offensive linemen. Leading Rusher Blake Watson (215 ATT, 1,112 YDS, 8 TD) will also be back and will have help from Elijiah Davis (106 ATT, 576 YDS, 6 TD). QB Hayden Wolff (1,933 YDS, 10 TD, 7 INT) will be under center for the Monarchs after starting seven games last season. Backup QB DJ Mack (859 YDS, 5 TD, 7 INT) will also see some action as he provides Old Dominion with another rushing option (6 rush TD last season). The Monarchs will be stacked at the receiver position with Ali Jennings (62 REC, 1,066 YDS, 5 TD) and Zack Kuntz (73 REC, 692 YDS, 5 TD) returning.

The Monarchs first three weeks of play will come against Virginia Tech, ECU, and Virginia. If that was not tough enough, Old Dominion will have road games against Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, and Appalachian State. In my mind that is six losses which leaves just six games for the Monarchs to cover their win total of 4.5 (-120). Their games against Marshall and Liberty at home are winnable, but I do not see it happening. This is too tough of a schedule for a team that has had four straight losing seasons and sadly I think they will have less wins than last season. Backing the under 4.5 wins (+100) is the best bet on the board for Old Dominion.

OLD DOMINION MONARCHS ODDS TO WIN SUN BELT CHAMPIONSHIP

+6000

Last year the Monarchs started off the season 1-6 SU but managed to finish off strong thanks to an easier end of season schedule. This will not be the case this season as Old Dominion’s last four games of the season include Marshall and a road game against Appalachian State. Expect the Monarchs to keep things competitive this season, but it will be a few years before this team is competing for a Sun Belt Championship.

OLD DOMINION MONARCHS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+250000

Since joining the FBS in 2013, Old Dominion has gone 1-1 SU in bowl games including a 30-17 loss to Tulsa in the Myrtle Beach Bowl last season. If you are interested in this bet, focus on cracking the top 25 before throwing away money on Old Dominion to win the National Championship. A lot of juice here, but not much value as the Monarchs will more than likely start the season 0-3 SU.
