2022 SOUTH ALABAMA JAGUARS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

South Alabama has not seen a winning season since joining FBS in 2012, but things are looking up for the Jaguars after a 5-7 SU season under second-year head coach Kane Wommack. It will be tough for South Alabama to take down the reigning Sun Belt Champions Louisiana, but their win total of 5.5 and is very doable. Wommack has been great recruiting from the transfer portal and will have plenty of starters returning. While a Sun Belt Championship is not in store for the Jaguars, a .500 or even winning season is achievable.

Quarterback Desmond Trotter (596 YDS, 5 TD, 3 INT) will return as the leader of the Jags offense. If he happens to struggle, Toledo transfer Carter Bradley will get an opportunity to shine. Leading wide receiver Jalen Tolbert is now a Dallas Cowboy, but Jalen Wayne, Caullin Lacy, and tight end Lincoln Sefcik will all return for the 2022 season. The passing attack should be fine, but they will need to see improvement in the run game. Four offensive linemen return and will need to be better as the Jaguars averaged just three yards per carry last season. The defense is getting help from the transfer portal as well and should be set up for success as Wommack is a defensive minded coach.

South Alabama will open their season against Nicholls, Central Michigan, UCLA, and Louisiana Tech. They should take care of Nicholls and games against Louisiana Tech and Central Michigan are winnable. Their conference scheduled is not bad either, avoiding Appalachian State, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, and Marshall. With this schedule, the best bet on the board for South Alabama is backing the win total to go over 5.5 (-110).

I do not love this bet, but I honestly think there is some value to it. The Jaguars schedule plays in their favor and if Louisiana has an off year who is to say South Alabama is not the team to come out of the West division. This is not the best available bet for South Alabama, but in terms of a team's potential this is not a terrible play considering the amount of juice here.

Probably not a smart play here. Even with an undefeated season, their schedule is not strong enough to find themselves in the mix for a National Championship. The University of Alabama has seen plenty of success for the entire state to enjoy, so the Jaguars can live vicariously through them if they want to experience a National Championship. Save your money or find a better bet than this one to roll with.
