UCLA BRUINS vs. OREGON DUCKS BETTING PREDICTION

Chip Kelly is 0-3 against his former team, and he hopes to change that on Saturday when his UCLA Bruins take on the Oregon Ducks. Kelly had a ton of success during his four years in Eugene from 2009 to 2012, leading the Ducks to a 46-7 record. He has been unable to beat Oregon since taking the UCLA job, but he came close in each of the last two seasons losing by three points in 2020 and 2021. This is the first showdown between two Pac 12 teams ranked in the top ten since 2018.

Score Prediction: Oregon 41, UCLA 37
Best Bet: Over 72 (-110)

UCLA BRUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

It’s taken some time for Chip Kelly to build a winner in Westwood, but UCLA showed patience and has been rewarded. Kelly didn’t win more than four games in any of his first three seasons with the Bruins, but UCLA won eight games last year and is off to a 6-0 start this season. The Bruins had to fend off South Alabama in non-conference play, but they have dropped at least 40 points on every other opponent they have faced including ranked Washington and Utah.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is one of the most seasoned quarterbacks in college football. DTR has spent five years as Kelly’s starter in this offense, and he has improved every season. He is having by far his best season yet in 2022, completing 74.8% of his passes for 1,510 yards with 15 touchdown and two interceptions. DTR is averaging 9.3 YPA, and he has run for 5.5 YPC and added four touchdowns on the ground as the second leading rusher for UCLA.

Michigan transfer Zach Charbonnet had a solid first season with UCLA in 2021, and he has been even better so far in 2022. The California native has run for 615 yards and six touchdowns through six games, and he is averaging 7.1 YPC. Charbonnet has been a more dangerous receiver out of the backfield too, averaging 13.0 YPR.

UCLA is ranked eighth in SP+. The Bruins have the 3rd ranked offense nationally in this metric, but their defense is ranked 42nd in SP+. The front seven is playing extremely well, conceding just 3.2 YPC and 101.4 YPG on the ground, and Laiatu Latu already has 6.5 sacks.

OREGON DUCKS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Oregon Ducks weren’t sure they had made a great hire after their first game under Dan Lanning this season. Lanning was hired to replace Mario Cristobal, and his first game was against his former team, the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia routed Oregon 49-3 to ring some alarm bells, but the Ducks have won five straight games since that point with at least 40 points in each victory.

Auburn transfer Bo Nix is trying to revive his career out west, and he has posted solid numbers to date. Nix is completing 70.4% of his passes for 8.2 YPA with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions, and he has been impressive as a mobile threat too. He is averaging 8.3 YPC with eight rushing touchdowns behind a strong offensive line. This offensive line has only surrendered one sack in six games.

Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington have split carries to wear down opposing defenses, while Troy Franklin is the top receiver on the roster.

Oregon doesn’t create a lot of havoc on defense. The Ducks rank pretty low in terms of interceptions and sacks, and they know they won’t be able to get after DTR in this game. We will see a lot of mush rush, but UCLA is definitely going to have some success.
