British Open Odds – 3rd Round

Two rounds of the Open Championship are in the books from Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and we’ve got a tight leaderboard.

J.B. Holmes and Shane Lowry share the lead at 8-under through 36 holes.

Holmes began Friday as the first-round leader after he notched a 5-under 66 on Thursday. He followed that effort with a 3-under 68 in the second round.

Lowry, from Ireland, has posted back-to-back scores of 67.

Despite holding a share of the lead, neither golfer has been listed as the favorite headed into the weekend.

The Las Vegas Westgate SuperBook has Holmes at 16/1 odds while Lowry is an 8/1 choice.

The favorite label after two rounds belongs to Brooks Koepka at 5/1 odds. Koepka sits at 5-under after shooting a 2-under on Friday.

Tommy Fleetwood is also receiving respect from the books and he's listed at 11/2 odds (Bet $100 to win $550). The English golfer is 7-under through two days of action from Portrush.

The top betting choice at the SuperBook before the tournament was Rory McIlroy, who was listed at 9/1 odds. The hometown product blew up on Thursday with an 8-over 79 but he saved some face on Friday with a score of 6-under 65 which left him at 2-over. Unfortunately for the Northern Ireland talent, he just missed the cut by one stroke.

Other notable golfers that received attention at the betting counter to miss the cut this week were Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Per the Associated Press, the pair have played in the same major 77 times as professionals and this was the first time that both missed the cut in the same event.

Going into the weekend, we’ll have 58 golfers at 1-over or better looking to win the Open Championship.
