Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Predictions

Chicago is coming off a two-game series against the Cubs. The White Sox won both matchups and have now won three straight games. The White Sox hit the ball fairly well, with a combined 16 hits and seven runs throughout the series. The bullpen also gave solid production, giving up 11 hits and four runs. The right-hander Vince Velasquez is expected to take the mound Friday. Velasquez is 1-2 in four games this season with an ERA of 4.58 and has allowed 19 hits, nine earned runs, and struck out 19 batters in 17.2 innings.

The Red Sox lost to the Angels on Thursday with a final score of 8-0 and have now lost four of their last five games. Boston lost two of three against the Angels with their bullpen struggling once again. Throughout the series, the bullpen gave up 18 runs while the offense was only able to score nine. Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to start on Friday. Eovaldi is 1-0 in five games this season with an ERA of 2.51 and has given up 24 hits, eight earned runs, and struck out 32 batters in 28.2 innings.

Boston has not played well this season, but Nathan Eovaldi has looked great in his five outings. Chicago has lost six of their last eight games on the road and have struggled to get much going with their bats. I like Boston to cover the –1.5 runs in this matchup. The Red Sox are eight and a half games behind the Yankees in the AL East and need to start winning games before the deficit gets too large. Backing Boston at –1.5 here.

Chicago White Sox Betting Analysis

The White Sox are currently third in the AL Central and have gone 11-13 SU, 10-14 ATS, and have an O/U record of 10-12-2. The total has gone under in four of Chicago’s last six games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in nine of their last 13 when playing on the road against Boston. The White Sox are 4-1 SU in their last five games and 4-2 SU in their last six matchups against the Red Sox.

Chicago has struggled to get much going offensively this season. As a team the White Sox have a batting average of .221 (24th), on base percentage of .276 (28th), slugging percentage of .355 (21st), and have scored 79 runs (27th). The shortstop Tim Anderson leads the team with a batting average of .313 (26-83), four home runs, and nine RBIs. Designated hitter Andrew Vaughn has done a nice job bringing runs in with a batting average of .283 (15-53), four home runs, and 12 RBIs.

The White Sox bullpen has not been playing great this season, but have held opposing teams to three runs or less in four of their last five games. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .224 (10th), have an ERA of 3.57 (15th), and have given up 97 runs (12th). Right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez is scheduled to start Friday. Velasquez is 1-2 in four games this season with an ERA of 4.58 and has allowed 19 hits, nine earned runs, and struck out 19 batters in 17.2 innings. Velasquez last pitched against Boston last season and gave up six hits, eight earned runs, and struck out two batters in 2.1 innings of work.

Boston Red Sox Betting Analysis

Boston is fourth in the AL East and have gone 10-16 SU, 14-12 ATS, and have an O/U record of 8-17-1. The total has gone under in 11 of the Red Sox last 16 games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in nine of their last 13 when playing the White Sox at home. The Red Sox are 1-4 SU in their last five games and 2-5 SU in their last seven games at home.

The Red Sox offensive production has been very limited this season. As a team they have a batting average of .229 (19th), on base percentage of .279 (27th), slugging percentage of .347 (22nd), and have scored 90 runs (24th). The shortstop Xander Bogaerts is having a nice season with a batting average of .354 (34-96), two home runs, and 10 RBIs. Designated hitter J.D Martinez is also hitting the ball well with a batting average of .306 (22-72), three home runs, and 13 RBIs.

Boston’s bullpen has given up eight runs or more in three of their last four games. On the season, they are allowing opponents a batting average of .222 (9th), have an ERA of 3.81 (18th), and have given up 108 runs (22nd). The right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is expected to take the mound on Friday. Eovaldi is 1-0 in five games this season with an ERA of 2.51 and has given up 24 hits, eight earned runs, and struck out 32 batters in 28.2 innings. In his one game against the White Sox last season, Eovaldi went 6.1 innings and allowed nine hits, four earned runs, and struck out 10 batters.

Key Players to Watch

  • CWS: Jose Abreu - DH (Last Game: 2-4, HR, 2 R, RBI)
  • BOS: Rafael Devers -3B (Last Game: 1-4)
  • BOS: Xander Bogaerts - SS (Last Game: 1-4)

Probable Pitchers

  • CWS: Vince Velasquez - RHP (1-2, 4.58 ERA, 19 K, 1.47 WHIP)
  • BOS: Nathan Eovaldi - RHP (1-0, 2.51 ERA, 32 K, 0.94 WHIP)

Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Conclusion

I like the Red Sox to cover the –1.5 runs in game one of this series. Boston has struggled all season, but sending Eovaldi to the mound at home gives them their best chance in this one. Velasquez has not been pitching well and while the Red Sox have not been scoring a lot of runs, they have been hitting the ball better at home this season. Backing Boston –1.5 in this matchup.
