Betting on the Seattle Mariners

Seattle has been home to some of baseball’s most influential superstars, but that has not translated to team success.

Seattle Mariners Franchise History

It hasn’t been pretty for the Mariners since their integration into the MLB in 1977. In its entire history, Seattle has just a handful of playoff appearances and no World Series victories.

It took the franchise just under 20 seasons to make its first trip to the postseason. In 1995, Tino Martinez and Randy Johnson led the team to the playoffs despite superstar Ken Griffey Jr. battling injuries.

With Griffey at the helm, the Mariners made one more postseason trip, but the team failed to win the American League pennant. Despite the inconsistent team success, Griffey established himself as an international baseball icon while in Seattle.

Alongside Griffey was young superstar Alex Rodriguez, who would take over the Batman role after Griffey’s departure. A-Rod took Seattle to another ALCS, where it again failed to reach the World Series.

The Mariners’ revolving door of influential stars turned one more time when the franchise brought in Ichiro Suzuki, a Japanese baseball icon. In 2001, the Mariners returned to the ALCS, losing again, even with Ichiro leading the way.

Despite falling short, the Mariners had something special in Ichiro. He became the second player ever to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season. He even made the All-Star team in each of his first 10 seasons.

The Mariners are still in search of a World Series appearance, let alone a title.

🔱 Betting on the Mariners in Washington 🔱

Sports betting went live in the Evergreen State in March 2020 when the Snoqualmie Casino accepted the state’s first wager.

Unfortunately for Washingtonians, sports betting is still very limited multiple years later. While online sports betting is technically legal, it is only legal on the property of a retail, tribal casino.

Tribal casinos have been slow to offer sports betting to begin with, and as a result, they aren’t rushing to roll out betting websites or mobile apps.

There are dozens of tribal casinos in the state, so it’s possible Washington sees a pickup in retail and online betting as the rest of the country pushes to expand the greater market. Right now, however, there isn’t much momentum for widespread mobile betting.

State legislature has been reluctant to open up the market to non-tribal operators. Bettors traveling to a retail casino on the state, and future online bettors – assuming that day does come – can expect to see the following on the betting board:

In this instance, the Mariners and Angels are a pick ‘em on the moneyline, with neither team registering as the favorite.

Odds of -110 imply that a bettor must wager $110 to profit $100 on either team. Betting on the moneyline is simply betting on a team to win the game.
