EDMONTON OILERS vs. CALGARY FLAMES PREDICTIONS

The Oilers snapped a mini two-game slide with a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night behind veteran Mike Smith. The Oilers have now won six in a row at home since a March 5 setback against the Montreal Canadiens. It's troubles have been on the road, as Edmonton has dropped four straight (0-2-2), including a 3-1 loss in Calgary on March 7 with Mikko Koskinen in between the pipes.

The Flames doubled up the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night, winning 4-2, as Jacob Markstrom turned aside 16 of the 18 shots he faced in a light night. His workload was so light that it wouldn't be surprising to see him make the start in the back-to-back outing instead of backup Dan Vladar. Markstrom, legitimate Vezina Trophy candidate, is now 18-5-0 with a 1.92 GAA and .928 SV% with five of his NHL-leading nine shutouts at home. He is 1-2-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .900 SV% in three starts against the Oilers, so it's conceivable bench boss Darryl Sutter turns to Vladar to see if he can be slicker than the Oilers.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 36-24-5
  • ATS: 31-34
  • O/U: 33-29-3

The Oilers blasted the San Jose Sharks to get back on track, but again, they're still way better on home ice than on the road. Can they beat a contending team in their own barn? Edmonton's last win on the road was at Philadelphia on March 1, winning 3-0, and the Flyers aren't exactly NHL royalty at the moment. Their last victory against a contender on the road was Feb. 26 in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers.

Edmonton has won six of the past eight games overall, while winning four of the past five games inside the division. The Oilers are still just 6-14 in the past 20 games against winning teams, while going 1-4 in the past five as an underdog. They're also 0-4 in the past four as a road 'dog.

For totals, the OVER has hit in five of the past six games overall, while going 4-1 in the past five when playing on a day of rest. The UNDER is 4-1-1 in the past six as an underdog, however, while going 14-6-2 in the past 22 against winning teams.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 39-17-8
  • ATS: 35-29
  • O/U: 32-27-5

The Flames bounced the lowly Coyotes 4-2 on Friday night, now face their first back-to-back in less than a week. The Flames lost 1-0 in overtime against the Buffalo Sabres last Friday before settling down and blasting the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on the road behind Vladar. Calgary has won four of the past six in the second end of a back-to-back situation.

Calgary has picked up 16 victories in the past 21 games at home, while also going 16-5 in the past 21 games against Western Conference teams. The Flames are 21-7 in the past 28 as a favorite, too, while going 8-2 in the past 10 against winning teams.

As far as totals are concerned, the OVER is 3-1-1 in the past five games for the Flames, while going 6-1-2 in the past nine in the second end of a back-to-back situation. The OVER is also 21-9-2 in the past 32 divisional affairs.

The home team has picked up four consecutive wins in the Battle of Alberta. (AP)

EDMONTON OILERS vs. CALGARY FLAMES BETTING CONCLUSION

The first-place Flames and third-place Oilers could potentially be on a collision course for a playoff series, and wouldn't that be super special? The Oilers currently trail the Los Angeles Kings by two points for second place in the Pacific Division, while Edmonton has a game in hand. The Oilers are catching the Flames playing in the second end of a back-to-back situation, although Calgary was home Friday, and they barely had to break a sweat against the skidding 'Yotes.

Calgary has been the class of this division, and rarely have they been tripped up at home. The Flames are 19-6-6 at the Scotiabank Saddledome this season, while the Oilers are just 16-12-5 on the road. Calgary also has a plus-65 goal differential, second-best in the Western Conference, while Edmonton has managed a rather pedestrian plus-16. The Flames are the better team here, and they'll prove it despite the fact they could have some tired legs after playing just last night.
