COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. EDMONTON OILERS PREDICTIONS

The Avalanche were moderate favorites Friday night in Winnipeg. The Avalanche were trailing 2-1 after one period, took a 4-2 lead early in the third period, then allowed two goals in the final 3:55 of regulation as the home side forced overtime. Cale Makar ended things with a power-play goal and a 5-4 win in a wild game in the front end of a back-to-back set for the Avalanche. As such, Colorado is now up to 108 points, leading the Florida Panthers by two points in pursuit of the President's Trophy, awarded for most points in the regular season.

The Oilers registered a 3-2 road win against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, winning for the sixth consecutive game. Edmonton is up to 89 points and second place in the Pacific Division, three points clear of the Kings with one game in hand. The Oilers trail their provincial rivals, the Calgary Flames, by six points in the Pacific Division with 10 games remaining. Edmonton heads into this one looking for revenge after a 3-2 overtime loss at Colorado on March 21 behind Mike Smith. These teams will meet twice in the next 13 days.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 51-14-6
  • ATS: 35-36
  • O/U: 37-29-5

The Avalanche have rattled off five consecutive victories since a 3-2 overtime setback in Minnesota on March 27. Colorado has outscored the opposition 20-13 during the team's five-game win streak, cashing the OVER in each of the past two outings.

Since March 13, the Avalanche are 10-1-1 in 12 games, cashing the UNDER in eight of those outings. The goaltending and defense has been a little more giving lately, yielding two or more goals in four straight, and nine of the past 10, including four goals in each of the past two. However, the D and tendies can slack off a little when the team is lighting the lamp on a much more frequent basis. Colorado is averaging 4.5 GPG across the past four outings.

The Avalanche are 5-1 in the past six road games, while going 45-13 in the past 58 as a favorite. They're also 11-2 in the past 13 when working on no rest, while going 13-5 in the past 18 as a road favorite.

For totals, it's all about the UNDER lately for the Avs. The UNDER is 9-4 in the past 13 games, 4-0 in the past four against Pacific Division foes, 4-1 in the past five games with no rest and 12-3-2 in the past 17 against teams with a winning overall record. The UNDER is 17-5-1 in the past 23 games against the Western Conference, too.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 42-25-4
  • ATS: 33-39
  • O/U: 38-31-3

Edmonton is even hotter than Colorado lately, winning six in a row, but just three of the victories are against teams likely headed for the postseason. All three of those wins were by one goal, and just one of the outings was decided in regulation. So the Oilers haven't been super dominant during the streak, although wins are wins, and that's all that matters.

The Oilers have won nine straight games at home, too, while winning six in a row against Western Conference teams. They are just 1-5 in the past six games as an underdog, however.

As far as totals are concerned, the OVER has connected in 11 of the past 12 games at home, while going 7-2 in the past nine games overall. The OVER is 5-1 in the past six against Central Division teams, and 7-2 in the past nine against Western Conference foes.

COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. EDMONTON OILERS BETTING CONCLUSION

The home team has cashed in each of the previous four meetings, with the favorite also 4-0 in the past four in this series. The UNDER is 5-2 in the past seven meetings in Edmonton, too. That's good news for the red-hot Oilers, as they need to continue stacking victories as they try and chase down the rival Flames, while also giving them a shoulder's length from the Kings.

Colorado has a 16-point lead in the Central Division with 11 games left on its schedule. They're a shoe-in for the top spot, so the intensity might not be there every night. Edmonton is still jockeying for position, and playing very well lately. It's trying to track down Calgary, while trying to hold off L.A. They're bringing the intensity night in and night out. Look for a nice win on home ice, especially with the Avs coming back after playing an emotional, energy-depleting game Friday in Winnipeg.
