CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. COLORADO AVALANCHE PREDICTIONS

The Hurricanes head to the Mile High City with 104 points, second-most in the Eastern Conference behind the Florida Panthers. Carolina is also just two points clear of the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division, although it did just win on the road against the Blueshirts earlier in the week.

The Avalanche have rattled off eight straight victories, remaining on track for the President's Trophy. The Avs haven't lost in regulation in 10 games, going 9-0-1 since a 3-1 loss at home to the Vancouver Canucks on March 23. Colorado is two points ahead of Florida for the most points in the NHL.

These teams met in Raleigh back on March 10, and Hurricanes backup goaltender Antti Raanta posted the 36-save shutout in a 2-0 win over the Avalanche. Rearguard Ethan Bear broke a scoreless tie at 14:20 of the third period to give the home side a lead, and All-Star Sebastian Aho added an empty-net goal.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 48-19-8
  • ATS: 36-39
  • O/U: 32-39-4

The Hurricanes missed an opportunity to push closer to a Metropolitan Division title with a 3-0 setback against the Detroit Red Wings at PNC Arena in Raleigh on Thursday night, as Raanta was bested by former Canes backstop Alex Nedeljkovic. That splashed cold water on a feel-good 4-2 road win over the New York Rangers in the previous outing.

The Canes are actually just 3-4 across the past seven games, although they did win their most recent road game against a Western Conference team in emphatic fashion, routing the St. Louis Blues 7-2 on March 26. They also belted the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 in the most recent game against a team from the West back on April 10 at PNC.

Carolina is still just 2-5 in the past seven as an underdog, and 1-4 in the past five as a road 'dog. For totals, the OVER is 4-1 in the past five on the road, although the UNDER is 17-7-3 in the previous 27 as an underdog, and 11-5-1 in the past 17 vs. Central Division foes.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 54-14-6
  • ATS: 37-37
  • O/U: 38-31-5

The Avalanche are coming off a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils last time out on Thursday, an Eastern Conference team, and they've won four straight against the East since that 2-0 setback in Carolina on March 10.

Colorado has picked up 50 wins in the past 59 games at Ball Arena, and 48 of the past 61 as a favorite. They're also a very impressive 37-16 in the past 53 against the Eastern Conference, while going 4-0 in the past four against Metropolitan Division opponents.

For totals, it's all about the UNDER lately, as Darcy Kuemper has been playing well, and the Cale Makar-led defense has been locking it down. The UNDER is 11-5 in the past 16 games overall, while the Avs have cashed the UNDER in six of the past eight at home, while going 10-4 in the past 14 as a favorite.

CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING CONCLUSION

I feel as if the Avalanche are going to exact a little revenge in this potential Stanley Cup Final preview, as Colorado rarely loses at home. Over the years, the Hurricanes have really struggled in the Mile High City, too, and a shutout loss against the non-playoff Red Wings doesn't exactly give bettors a lot of confidence against the league's top team, either.

However, to be fair...to be faaaaaaaiiiiirrr...the Hurricanes have played down to their competition, and risen to the occasion against the top teams, so don't write off Carolina just yet. The best bet in this game might be the UNDER, however. It easily cashed in the first meeting in Raleigh, and has been a mainstay for Avalanche total bettors over the past calendar month and then some.
