WASHINGTON CAPITALS vs. COLORADO AVALANCHE PREDICTIONS

Following the New York Islanders 4-2 loss in Toronto on Sunday night, the Capitals have officially clinched a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. The Caps didn't back into the postseason, however. Washington has won five of the past six games, including an 8-4 win at Montreal on Saturday night. In the past six outings Washington is averaging 5.7 goals per game, notching four or more goals in five of the games, and six or more goals in three of the outings. As you'd expect, the OVER is on fire with the Caps, going 5-0-1 in the past six games overall.

The Avalanche flexed a little muscle on Saturday in a potential Stanley Cup Final preview, besting the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 7-4. Now, they'll get another Metropolitan Division challenger invading their building. Colorado has been even hotter than Washington lately, as it pursues the President's Trophy for most points in the NHL. The Avalanche have won nine straight, while going 10-0-1 across the past 11 games overall. It's last loss in regulation was March 23 at home against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Capitals offense has been humming right along lately, going for 34 total goals across the past six outings, including a season-high nine goals at home against Philadelphia last Tuesday, and eight lamp lightings in Montreal on Saturday night. It's no surprise the OVER has dominated, going 5-0-1 in the past six games overall, and 9-0 in the past nine on the road. The OVER is also 15-5-2 in the past 22 as an underdog, too.

Now that the Capitals are into the playoffs, it's time to work on seeding. They're currently three points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan Division for third place, and the Caps have two games in hand. The teams are very similar, with Pittsburgh posting a plus-39 goal differential, and Washington sitting with a plus-37.

The Caps have won six of the past seven road outings, while going 5-2 in the past seven as an underdog. They're just 1-4 in the past five against the Western Conference, however, and 0-4 in the past four on a Monday.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

It's been pedal to the metal for the Avalanche lately, as they appear highly motivated to bring the President's Trophy back to Denver. Colorado has won nine consecutive games, while going 10-0-1 across the past 11 outings overall.

Like the Capitals, the Avalanche have managed a lot of goals lately, too. The Avs are good for 19 total goals in the past three outings, and 44 goals (4.8 goals per game) across the past nine contests. Oddly enough, the OVER and UNDER have alternated in the past five games overall, as the goaltending and defense has still been solid.

Colorado never has the case of the Mondays, going 14-2 in the past 16 on the first day of the work week. They're also a dominant 51-9 in the past 60 games at Ball Arena, while going 19-7 in the past 26 against teams with a road record.

The Capitals have actually dominated this series lately, going 5-1 in the past six trips to Colorado, while topping the Avalanche in 11 of the past 13 games overall. The underdog is also 4-1 in the previous five meetings in this series, with the OVER cashing in six of the past eight head-to-head battles. When these teams met in D.C., Washington came away with the 6-3 victory as underdogs (+110) at most shops while the OVER comfortably connected.

The Avalanche have been extremely hot lately, but if anyone is going to cool them off, it's the equally hot Capitals. Washington is worth a roll of the dice as heavy underdogs, as it represents a tremendous value. Playing it as a road 'dog on the puck line isn't out of line, either. And with the way both teams have been lighting the lamp lately, the OVER is the way to go.
