NEW YORK RANGERS vs. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS PREDICTIONS
The Rangers were tripped up in Game 1, falling 4-3 in triple-overtime. It was a total team effort for the Pens, who were forced to start Casey DeSmith in net. He left with what turns out to be a season-ending core muscle injury which required surgery, leaving Louis Domingue to come on. He stopped all 17 shots he faced, and is now THE guy in the Steel City. No. 1 tendy Tristan Jarry (foot) remains sidelined, and he was unable to participate in an optional team practice on Friday.
The Rangers are likely to pounce on Domingue like they did in Game 2. New York won 5-2, as Domingue faced 40 shots, allowing four even-strength goals and a power-play marker. Jake Guentzel scored his third goal of the series, and Sidney Crosby got on the board, too. But it was not nearly enough for the Pens, and that's likely to be the case the rest of the series. Look for the Rangers to continue to dominate, as they have the offense, and they have one of the best goaltenders in the game right now.

NEW YORK RANGERS BETTING ANALYSIS
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 53-25-6
- ATS: 43-41
- O/U: 34-47-3
The Rangers played well enough to win Game 1, but came up short in a marathon triple-overtime loss. They dominated Game 2, and picked up the split on home ice, but they really need to win Game 3 on the road, or Game 4, to re-gain home-ice advantage.
The Rangers have picked up five victories in the past six road outings, while going 37-15 in the past 52 when favored on the road. They're also 4-1 in the past five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals games.
In terms of totals, the OVER has cashed in four of the past five outings, including each of the first two games of this series. The OVER is also 5-1 in the past six games as a favorite, too, while going 5-0-2 in the past seven playoff games when favored.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS BETTING ANALYSIS
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 47-26-11
- ATS: 41-43
- O/U: 42-39-3
The Penguins gained the split, which is about as good as they could have hoped given their goalie issues. Pittsburgh has won five of the past six meetings at home against New York, although the Rangers picked up the 3-2 win on March 29 in the only regular-season meeting in the Steel City.
Pittsburgh has won four of the past five games at home, while going 13-5 in the past 18 games as a home 'dog. The Pens are 1-4 in the past five as an underdog, however, while going just 1-5 in the past six in the Quarterfinals Round, and they're lucky to have that after Game 1.
On totals, the OVER has cashed in six of the past seven inside the Metropolitan Division, while going 5-2 in the past seven when playing on a day of rest.
NEW YORK RANGERS vs. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS CONCLUSION
The Rangers and Penguins played a marathon game in the series opener, perhaps the best game of the entire playoffs to date among any series. Igor Shesterkin made 79 saves (and lost!) in Game 1, and he returned in Game 2 and was impressive, not looking tired in the least. He is one of the best players in this series, if not the best right now, and he has the potential to carry the Rangers over the goal line.
The Rangers are a strong road favorite, and the price isn't out of line. Enjoy the win, as the Rangers seize home-ice advantage back in a lower-scoring game than we've seen in the first two in this series.
