LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. EDMONTON OILERS PREDICTIONS

The first game of this series was a tight 4-3 game which went in favor of the Kings in Edmonton. That game cashed the OVER, and so far the OVER-UNDER has split, with the OVER hitting in odd-numbered games, and the UNDER in the even-numbered outings. That was also the only game decided by one goal. In fact, the past three games have been decided by four or more goals, with two of the games decided by exactly six goals.

And while we have had a total of 27 goals through four games, or 6.8 combined goals per game, we have also had two shutouts. This series definitely has had a little bit of everything, with Mike Smith of the Oilers, and Jonathan Quick of the Kings, posting one shutout apiece.

The inconsistent play of both sides makes this tough to handicap, but in an emotional Game 5 in front of the home fans, you have to roll with the Oilers. Any team with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and an improved supporting cast cannot be ignored.

LOS ANGELES KINGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 46-29-11
  • ATS: 52-34
  • O/U: 37-46-3

The Kings are coming off its most impressive game of the series, topping the Oilers by a 4-0 score in Game 4 behind Quick. Trevor Moore and Troy Stecher notched goals in the first period, with Carl Grundstrom adding an even-strength goal and a power-play empty-net goal for insurance. That was all the support Quick needed, as he turned aside all 31 shots he faced. The Kings squeezed off 20 shots in the first period, and ended up with 50 shots on Edmonton's Smith, beating him three times.

There was a lot of nonsense in the end of the lopsided game, too, and the referees weren't having it. We had offsetting roughing penalties in the first period, but then it picked up with 10 PIM in the second. However, in the third period we had 68 total PIM with six game misconducts, including three for each side.

The Kings were outscored in the first two games in Edmonton by a 9-4 score despite the split, as they were buried 6-0 in Game 2. They're just 5-7 in the past 12 games on the road dating back to March 10, too.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 51-29-6
  • ATS: 41-45
  • O/U: 44-39-3

The Oilers would like to gain the upper hand and advance to the second round for the first time since 2017. This proud franchise has hit the skids lately. While they haven't hit Toronto Maple Leafs desperation, it's close. Edmonton has won just one playoff series, a first-round matchup against the San Jose Sharks in six games, since a Stanley Cup Finals appearance against the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.

Edmonton has alternated the UNDER-OVER across the past eight games, including a split in the first two games of the series against the Kings at home.

The Oilers are 7-2 in the past nine home games against the Kings, and they'd love to push Los Angeles to the brink of elimination with a win. The favorite is 30-11 in the past 41 meetings in this series, so that's certainly a big reason the public is on the Oilers at nearly a 2-to-1 clip.

LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. EDMONTON OILERS CONCLUSION

It's going to cost you twice as much as your potential return to bet the Oilers, as they're now hovering around -200. The books expect an Edmonton winner in Game 5, and it's almost tempting to make the contrarian play and try and double up. This series has been extremely unpredictable. The Oilers 'should' be able to ride the world-class players McDavid and Draisaitl to a win, but nothing has really gone according to plan so far. One night these teams look like world beaters, and the next night they look like a non-playoff team.

The best bet here is to take Los Angeles on the puck line as an underdog, and hope we finally get a tight game. The OVER is also a good bet, as Quick won't post another shutout, or even come close, and Smith is very giving for the Oilers, too.
