ST. LOUIS BLUES vs. MINNESOTA WILD PREDICTIONS

This has been a tremendously entertaining series, although both teams have been a little Jekyll and Hyde so far. In four games, each team has won twice. Both teams are 1-1 so far on home ice. The OVER-UNDER has split 1-1, as well. And, with those kind of even numbers, you'd expect each of the games have been super close, right? Well, all four games have been decided by three or more goals, with three of the games decided by exactly four goals. What?

Blues head coach Craig Berube pulled the plug on Ville Husso, who had a shutout in Game 1. He allowed 11 total goals in Games 2 and 3, so Berube went with Stanley Cup winner Jordan Binnington for Game 4. He stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced to best veteran Marc-Andre Fleury, and the series is back tied, and now essentially a best-of-three situation.

Home ice hasn't mattered much. We've had all kinds of offense, and just a little bit of defense. I expect the Wild to actually bounce back and use the crowd to its advantage in this one, and for the scores to be slightly lower for this one.

ST. LOUIS BLUES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 51-24-11
  • ATS: 49-37
  • O/U: 45-36-5

The Blues have scored four or more goals in their two victories, and just three total goals in Games 2 and 3, a pair of losses. St. Louis is still 14-5 across the past 19 games overall, while going 8-2 in the past 10 games on the road. But they're still only 2-7 in the previous nine as an underdog in the postseason, and it still remains to be seen whether or not Binnington can be trusted.

For totals, the OVER has been an impressive 21-8-1 in the past 30 games overall for the Blues, while going 13-4-1 in the past 18 games away from home. And in this series, the OVER is 6-2 in the past eight meetings, although just 2-2 so far in this series, including 1-1 in each venue.

MINNESOTA WILD BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 55-24-7
  • ATS: 42-44
  • O/U: 48-35-3

The Wild heads into this game with home-ice advantage still in tow, although it hasn't really meant too much in this series. Home and road teams are 2-2 so far, although all of the games have been lopsided affairs.

The Wild have won just three of the past 10 tries in the Western Conference Quarterfinals Round, although this might certainly be the team's best offensive cast with the likes of budding superstar Kirill Kaprizov, rookie Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek and others. Kaprizov has five goals (including the franchise's first-ever playoff hat trick) and six points with a plus-4 rating so far through four games.

The OVER is 38-19-1 in the past 58 home games for the Wild, while going an impressive 31-11-1 in the past 43 games as a home favorite. Toss in the fact the OVER is 5-1 in the past six meetings at home against St. Louis, and 6-2 in the previous eight overall against the Blues, and you're looking at another OVER result, most likely.

ST. LOUIS BLUES vs. MINNESOTA WILD CONCLUSION

The OVER at even money seems too tempting to pass up. Yes, we've had the OVER-UNDER split so far in this series, and generally the later a series goes, things tighten up, but we haven't seen that just yet. Really, overall in the playoffs, it's been super wide open outside of the Dallas-Calgary series, with plenty of OVER results night in and night out.

I am still waiting on a tight contest in this series. I think this pivotal Game 5 is it. The winner will push the loser to the brink, and that's a place neither team obviously wants to be. Therefore I expect things to tighten up a little bit. Despite the fact the OVER has dominated overall in these playoffs, I expect a much lower scoring game here, as these teams play perhaps the tightest contest of the entire series, perhaps even with overtime deciding a winner.
