The Jimmy Garoppolo experience is finally over in San Francisco as they move on and hand the ball to Trey Lance. The 49ers have won both of their first two preseason games against the Packers and Vikings. Trey Lance didn’t touch the field in the last outing for the 49ers, but we expect him to see some time. The 49ers roster as a whole is much deeper than that of the Texans, but due to Garoppolo likely being shopped around the quarterback depth will be a weakness in the preseason finale. The Niners will likely use Trey Lance, Brock Purdy and Nate Sudfeld.
The Texans will also begin life after Deshaun Watson. The franchise quarterback found himself in hot water and was traded to the Browns. He was given the richest quarterback contract in history, but that subsequently left the Texans with Davis Mills, Kye Allen and Jeff Driskel. Ultimately this quarterback room will also be a weakness for the Texans, but not just in the preseason finale. They are looking at a long season.
The Texans have also won both of their preseason games. They beat the Saints by a score of 17-13 and the defending champion Rams 24-20. Jeff Driskel primarily played in the first game and went 16-26 for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He did have three glaring interceptions. The second preseason contest saw Davis Mills get the bulk of the work and went 10-17 with 96 yards and a touchdown.
