Friday’s Picks from Belmont Park

We had a pretty chalky day at Belmont Park on Thursday to kick of the week including a pair of winners that returned $2.90 along with another winner that paid a paltry $3.00.

Friday’s card looks a bit more promising, and we are back at a 1:00 first post this afternoon.

Coming up on Saturday the feature at Belmont Park is the $100,000 Seek Again, a one-mile turf event for four-year-olds and upward. A field of 10 were entered and with the weather looking ideal the two main track only entrants will scratch which will leave us with a field of eight.

The Chad Brown trained Flavius is the 2-1 morning line favorite. The six-year-old was fourth in the Frank Kilroe (G1) in his last start on March 6 at Santa Anita.

His main foe will be the Christophe Clement trained Decorated Invader, who was third in the Danger’s Hour on April 10 off a 4 ½ month break.

We will pull a double on Saturday as Churchill Downs is running a night card with a 6:00 ET post time. The feature is the $150,000 Winning Colors (G3) which drew a field of six fillies and mares.

The 6-5 morning line favorite is Frank’s Rockette who was the beaten favorite last out in the Carousel at Oaklawn Park on April 10. She won five of her seven starts last year, one of her losses coming when she took on the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) where she was 11th.

‘America’s Day at the Races” on FS2 will cover the action on Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 ET and 4:00 to 11:30. You can also stream the action from Belmont Park today on YouTube or by using the TVG App. The horse betting company TVG is offering new players a 50% deposit match up to $250 . BELMONT PARK 1 ANALYSIS (1:00 P.M. ET)

Race 1 Md Sp Wt

  • #4 Coinage 7-5
  • #1 Disengage / 1a Golden Holiday 9-2
  • #5 Barese 8-5
  • #2 Bali's Shade 6-1

Analysis: Coinage debuts for the Casse barn that is 11% winners with first timers. This gal was a $450,000 Keeneland purchase, by Tapit out of the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) champ Bar of Gold ($1.55 million), this her first foal to race. The colt is working sharply in the mornings and looks ready to go at first asking.

Disengage has worked quickly for his debut including a bullet drill on May 14. The gelding is sent out by the Nevin barn that is 12% winners with first timers. He is by Courageous Cat out of a Southern Image mare that has dropped two foals to race, no winners to date. His entrymate Golden Holiday is out of a stakes placed Harlan's Holiday mare that has dropped eight foals to race with seven winners, top earner stakes winner Eagle Orb ($193,100).

BELMONT PARK RACE 7 ANALYSIS (4:08 P.M. ET)

Race 7 Md Sp Wt

  • #3 Raffinity 5-1
  • #2 A Bit o'Irish Sass 9-2
  • #5 Voice of Spring 7-2
  • #8 Highway Queen 4-1

Analysis: Raffinity dropped in for a $40,000 tag last out for her second career start off the bench and ran well in a runner up finish. Her debut came last July at the Spa where she was a non-threatening sixth. She steps back up to the maiden special weight level but is not catching a very imposing looking group. She should appreciate the added ground. She is by Tonalist out of a Smart Strike mare that has dropped five other runners with three winners. Carmouche picks up the call for the Atras barn that is 22% winners with runners making her second start off a +180-day layoff. He should move forward off his last effort.

A Bit o'Irish Sass stalked the early pace and made a mild late rally while getting bumped inside the final furlong in a third-place finish last out. She was making her first start since last October. In that outing she finished evenly in a third-place finish in the slop here behind repeat winner Vacay who came back to win the state bred Key Cents in her next outing. She is by Laoban out of a stakes placed Cactus Ridge mare that has dropped two winners. The barn is 15% winners (with a +ROI) moving runners from sprint to route.
