Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Predictions

After finishing 12th in the East with a record of 27-45 SU last year, Toronto bounced back with a surprisingly strong start to this season, as the Raptors opened with a modest 23-23 SU and 25-21 ATS stretch, despite getting tagged as underdogs in 26 of those contests.

However, Toronto played phenomenal defense down the homestretch, considering the Raptors have allowed just 108.2 DPPG across their latest 27-14 SU and 24-17 ATS stretch, which includes an average of 107.4 DPPG across Games 1 through 5 of this series.

On the other hand, Philadelphia stumbled out to a surprisingly slow start to the season, as the Sixers kicked things off with a lackluster 16-16 SU and 13-18-1 ATS stretch, while averaging just 105.4 OPPG during that span.

The Sixers have dominated since late December though, considering Philadelphia enters Game 6 riding a sturdy 38-17 SU run, while generating 112.2 OPPG and allowing just 107.5 DPPG across that window.

I’ll take the under here, as the series-opener between Toronto and Philly cruised over the total with a score of 131-111 (O 215.5); however, Games 2 through 5 all stayed under at an average of 204.5 PPG, which is seemingly the pace these teams intend to play at for the remainder of this series.

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis

  • SU: 54-33
  • ATS: 40-45-2
  • O/U: 39-43-2

After finishing first in the East with a record of 49-23 SU last year, the Sixers posted a surprisingly slow start to this season, as Philadelphia posted an underwhelming 16-16 SU record across their first 32 games, while averaging just 105.4 OPPG across that window.

Joel Embiid single-handedly carried the Sixers through the winter months though, considering Philadelphia closed the regular season with a solid 35-15 SU and 25-24-1 ATS run, propelled by Embiid averaging 32.5 PPG, 11.6 REB, 4.2 AST, and 1.5 BLK during that timeframe.

Fortunately, help has arrived in the form of James Harden, as Philly acquired the three-time scoring champ from Brooklyn at the trade deadline, and he’s made an immediate impact, highlighted by the Beard averaging 21 PPG and 10.5 AST across the Sixers’ 19-10 SU stretch since his debut, along with 18.4 PPG and 9.2 AST across the first five matchups of this series.

Toronto Raptors Betting Analysis

  • SU: 50-37
  • ATS: 49-38
  • O/U: 42-45

After last year’s disappointing 12th place showing, Toronto bounced back with a decent start to this season, as the Raptors opened with a relatively modest 23-23 SU and 25-21 ATS stretch, despite getting tagged as underdogs in 26 of those contests.

However, Toronto has significantly improved upon that mark since January, considering the Raptors enter Game 6 riding a sturdy 27-14 SU and 24-17 ATS stretch, despite posting a disappointing 2-3 mark to open this series.

Unfortunately, Toronto lacks the size necessary to match up with the Sixers down low, which in turn, has freed up Philly’s perimeter threats throughout the series and allowed them to jump out to a 3-0 lead before hitting a couple of road bumps in Games 4 and 5 (46.9% FG, 41% 3FG).

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Head-to-Head

The Sixers won two of three regular-season matchups against Toronto last year, with all three contests staying under the total at an average of 205.7 PPG. However, the Raptors went 3-1 SU against Philly this season, with three of those matchups cruising over the total at an average of 226.7 PPG, while the other stayed well under with a score of 93-88 (U 219).

The Sixers spanked Toronto by 15+ PTS at home in the first two matchups of this series though, with Game 1 soaring over the total at a score of 131-111 (O 215.5), while Game 2 stayed under with a score of 112-97 (U 217).

However, the following two matchups in Toronto were far more competitive, as Embiid drilled a last-second three-pointer in overtime to seal the Sixers’ third straight victory in Game 3 (104-101 OT, U 215), while the Raptors finally earned their first win of the series in a hard-fought defensive battle in Game 4 (110-102, U 213).

Toronto kept that same train rolling on the brink of elimination in Game 5 though, as the Raptors posted a gutsy 103-88 victory at Wells Fargo Center to extend this series for at least one more home game in Toronto.

Key Players to Watch

  • PHI: Joel Embiid - C (30.6 PPG, 11.7 REB, 4.2 AST)
  • PHI: James Harden - PG (22 PPG, 7.7 REB, 10.3 AST)
  • TOR: Pascal Siakam - PF (22.8 PPG, 8.5 REB, 5.3 AST)
  • TOR: OG Anunoby - SF (17.1 PPG, 5.5 REB, 2.6 AST)

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Conclusion

After bouncing back from a 3-0 deficit with consecutive victories in Games 4 and 5, the Raptors return home for Thursday’s sixth matchup as 1.5-point underdogs against the Sixers at Scotiabank Arena, which is slightly shorter than the number Philly was favored by on the road in Games 3 and 4 (PHI -2.5).

I’ll take the under here, as four-of-five matchups have stayed under the total to open this series, with Game 1 serving as the lone anomaly at a lofty score of 131-111 (O 215.5), and while OU 209 stands as the lowest bar set for a contest in this series, I still feel comfortable taking the under in Game 6 with at least one team scoring 102 PTS or less in each of the previous four matchups (204.5 PPG).
