Houston Texans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Odds

  • Opening point spread: Texans -3

GAME DAY UPDATE: An hour before kickoff, the Texans are -3 (even) in BetMGM's NFL Wild Card odds. In fact, this spread spent most of the week at some iteration of Houston -3, after opening -3 (-120). Last Monday/Tuesday, it spent time at Texans -3.5 (-102).

"Right now, Houston by 1 or 2 will be our best result. If not, then a Steelers outright win is also good," BetMGM trading manager Tristan Davis said. "We just don't want the Texans covering."

The total is at 38, easily the lowest of NFL Wild Card Playoff odds. A week ago, BetMGM opened at 39.5, and the total spent most of the week toggling between 38.5/38. Per usual, Davis said the book needs the Under.

"We don't really want anyone scoring. A 6-3 score line will do just fine," he said.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: As of 4 p.m. ET Friday, the Texans are -3 (-102) at DraftKings, sitting there since Wednesday night. Houston opened -3 (-115) and made a couple Monday trips to -3.5 at various juice, but the line has been at -3 since Monday night.

The Texans are landing 60% of early spread tickets/55% of early spread money.

DK's total is at 38.5 (Under -115), down from the 39.5 opener, but up from a brief stint at 37.5 (Over -115) on Friday morning. The Under is taking 61% of early tickets/81% of early cash.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: Borgata Sports has toggled between Texans -3 and -3.5 so far this week. As of 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, Houston is a 3-point road favorite.

"At 3.5, you’ll get Pittsburgh money, and at 3, you’ll see Texans money," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "As long as this game doesn’t land on 3, sportsbooks should be fine."

Borgata hasn't moved off its total of 39.5.

"We have a small decision currently to the Under. I doubt this number ever touches 40," Gable said.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Like AFC South rival Jacksonville, Houston (12-5 SU/11-6 ATS) is on a nine-game SU tear entering the postseason (6-3 ATS). But the Texans just barely kept their run going in Week 18, getting all they could handle from Indianapolis.

A Ka'imi Fairbairn field goal with 12 seconds left gave Houston a 32-30 lead. The Colts then had to result to pitchy-pitchy-woo-woo on the kickoff, and the Texans' Tommy Togiai returned a fumble 17 yards for a touchdown to make it a 38-32 victory.

Houston didn't cover as a 9.5-point home favorite. The Texans are the AFC's No. 5 seed.

Pittsburgh (10-7 SU/10-6-1 ATS) then won an absolute thriller over Baltimore in the final regular-season game, 26-24 as a 4.5-point home underdog. That gave the Steelers the AFC North and the No. 4 seed.

Baltimore took a 24-20 lead with 2:20 remaining on a Lamar Jackson-to-Zay Flowers 64-yard touchdown hookup. But the Steelers answered with a 26-yard Calvin Austin III TD, followed by a missed PAT to go up 26-24, and that score held up when the Ravens missed a last-second field goal.

The Steelers also cashed as 4.5-point underdogs and are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five outings.

Minutes afterward, The SuperBook opened the Texans as 3-point road favorites. And within 20 minutes Sunday night, the line adjusted to Texans -3 (-120).

"I think the public will still look to fade the Steelers, even as a home 'dog," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said. "The Texans will be popular in moneyline parlays, as well.

"We expect to be rooting for the Steelers to not only cover, but get their first playoff win since 2017."

GAME DAY UPDATE: Forty minutes before kickoff, the Patriots are -3.5 (-105) in BetMGM's NFL Wild Card Playoff odds. That's just a juice adjustment off last Sunday's opener of New England -3.5 (-115), and the number has been at some iteration of -3.5 pretty much all week.

But it's not the point spread that's a concern.

"The moneyline parlay money is building up on the Patriots. Even more so if the Eagles get an outright win and cover. We will be wanting the Chargers," BetMGM trading manager Tristan Davis said. "Spread money is a lot closer, but still a slight lean toward the Pats."

The total is at 45.5, matching the opener, and it spent time at 46 this week, as well. Davis said the Under is the need, per usual.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: The Pats have spent almost all week at -3.5 in DraftKings' NFL Wild Card Weekend odds, after opening -3 on Sunday night. New England is drawing 64% of early spread bets/53% of early spread money.

DK's total is at 45.5 (Over -115), moving off 46.5 (Under -115) on Thursday, after opening at 46.5 flat. Ticket count is almost dead even, 64% of early money is on the Under.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: New England opened as a 3.5-point home favorite in Borgata Sports' NFL Wild Card Playoff odds, and that's where the number remains Wednesday.

"It’s been good two way action at 3.5," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "With this being the final Sunday game, I expect plenty of parlays to be tied to the Patriots."

The total nudged from 45.5 to 46.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: New England (14-3 SU/12-5 ATS) finished a standout regular season with a blowout win. The Patriots thumped Miami 38-10 as hefty 14.5-point home favorites, sticking as the No. 2 seed in the process.

Drake Maye & Co. went 13-1 SU/11-3 ATS in their last 14 games.

Los Angeles (11-6 SU/9-8 ATS) was another team choosing to rest starters in Week 18. As such, the Chargers lost to Denver 19-3 getting 14.5 points on the road, while settling for the AFC's No. 7 seed.

The Patriots opened as 3.5-point home favorites in The SuperBook's NFL Wild Card Weekend odds.

"Like the Eagles, the Patriots will be popular in parlays. A Chargers win will be good for us," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.

The spread is stable late Sunday night at Pats -3.5, and the total inched from 45.5 to 46.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Odds

GAME DAY UPDATE: With 75 minutes until kickoff, the Eagles are -5.5, with BetMGM dealing -105 juice on both sides in NFL Wild Card Playoff odds. A week ago, Philadelphia opened at -3.5, the advanced to -4.5 Monday and -5 Thursday.

Over the course of the weekend, Philly stretched out to -6, before inching back to -5.5 today. But the underdog is getting attention as kickoff nears.

"Right now, we're taking more action on San Francisco," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said. "It's looking like we may need the Eagles -6."

The total is at 44, a low point for the week, after opening at 46.5, dropping to 45 by Monday afternoon and 44.5 by Tuesday afternoon. Still, Cipollini said BetMGM wants the Under, per usual.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: Philly is approaching -6 in DraftKings Sportsbook's NFL odds Wild Card market. As of 4 p.m. ET Friday, the Eagles sit at -5.5, going to -4.5 Monday and -5.5 Wednesday.

However, the Eagles are netting just 35% of spread bets and 57% of spread dollars.

DraftKings' total is at 44.5, sitting at various iterations of that number since Monday afternoon, after opening 46.5 and going to 45.5 Monday morning. The Under is taking 56% of early bets/72% of early money.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: Borgata Sports, a BetMGM shop, sits in Atlantic City, just an hour away from Philadelphia. So regional bias often impacts action, which is the case so far in NFL Wild Card odds.

"As expected, it’s been all Eagles money since we opened this game -3," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "We are now up to -4.5, and it’s not just here, as the Eagles are a consensus -4.5 in the wider market.

"Injuries continue to plague the Niners, and everyone knows their defense leaves something to be desired for a playoff team. But I can’t remember the last time the Eagles played a consistent four quarters of football on offense. So something has to give here."

Borgata's total is down to 44.5 from a 46.5 opener.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia (11-6 SU/10-7 ATS) rested Jalen Hurts, among others, and missed a chance to move from the No. 3 seed to No. 2.

The Eagles led Washington 17-10 entering the fourth quarter. But Philly was shut out from there and allowed two touchdowns, losing 24-17 as 3-point home favorites.

Similarly, but more damaging, San Francisco (12-5 SU/11-6 ATS) could've clinched the No. 1 seed and a bye with a home win over Seattle. But the Niners got smacked around all Saturday night and lost 13-3 as 2.5-point underdogs.

So Fran tumbled to the No. 6 seed as a Wild Card.

The SuperBook opened Philly as a 3.5-point home favorite in NFL Wild Card odds. That number was unchanged late Sunday night, but the total climbed from 45.5 to 46.5.

"The Eagles will be popular in parlays. So I think a Niners win will be good for the book," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.

Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Odds

GAME DAY UPDATE: An hour before kickoff, the Jaguars are 1.5-point favorites in BetMGM's NFL Wild Card odds, with this line jumping the fence over the course of the weekend. The Bills opened -1 last Sunday, went to -1.5 Monday, then went to -1 Tuesday.

Buffalo stuck at -1 until the weekend, on what's very much two-way action.

"It's a 50/50 game. The spread is close to 50/50, and same with the moneyline, just right down the middle," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said.

The total is at 51.5, up a half-point this morning from 51, after opening at 51.5 and peaking at 52.5 Monday. Cipollini has noted throughout the season that, with the popularity of same-game parlays, BetMGM is almost always rooting for the Under.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: Buffalo is painted to -1.5 in DraftKings' NFL Wild Card Weekend odds, though the juice has adjusted a couple times this week. As of 1:30 p.m. ET Friday, the Bills are -1.5 (+102), so a move to -1 could be in DK's future.

Multiple sportsbooks are at Bills -1, and in Las Vegas, the game is a pick 'em at Circa Sports, The SuperBook and South Point.

At DraftKings, spread tickets are running dead even and 55% of money is on the home underdog Jaguars.

DK's total is at 51.5 (Over -112), after opening at 51.5 (Under -115) and getting to 52.5 (Under -115) on Tuesday. The Over is drawing 68% of bets/71% of money.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: Buffalo hit Borgata Sports' NFL Wild Card Weekend odds as a modest 1.5-point road favorite. As of 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, the Bills are -1.

"Advance wagering on the side has been relatively split. Jaguars first half, taking a half-point, has seen some respected money early," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "The total is seeing most of the money come in on the Over."

That's pushed Borgata's number from 51.5 to 52.5 in the early going.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Jacksonville (13-4 SU/12-5 ATS) is arguably the hottest team in the NFL, riding an 8-0 SU and ATS spree to the No. 3 seed. In Week 18, the Jaguars trucked Tennessee 41-7 laying 13.5 points at home.

Buffalo (12-5 SU/8-9 ATS) settled for a Wild Card berth as the No. 6 seed, but heads to the postseason on a 5-1 SU run. In Week 18, the Bills closed as 13-point home favorites and pounded the New York Jets 35-8.

Bills-Jaguars opened at Buffalo -1.5 in The SuperBook's NFL Wild Card Playoffs odds. Late Sunday night, the Bills ticked down to -1.

"The Bills as a small favorite will be a public play," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears Odds

GAME DAY UPDATE: An hour before kickoff, the Packers are 2-point road favorites in BetMGM's NFL Wild Card odds, up a half-point today. On Sunday, the Bears opened -1, but the line flipped to Packers -1 on Tuesday, then went to -1.5 on Friday.

"Moneyline handle is split. There's a little bit of a lean toward Bears +2, but nothing that's really going to move the needle in terms of need just yet," BetMGM trading manager Tristan Davis said.

The total is at 46 (Over -125), after opening at 46, bottoming out at 44.5 on Thursday night and rebounding since then. Davis said that, with the popularity of same-game parlays, BetMGM always needs the Under.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: Green Bay has been a steady 1.5-point favorite, at various juice, since Tuesday afternoon in DraftKings' NFL Wild Card Playoff odds. The Packers opened -1.5 (-102), and the line jumped the fence to Bears -1.5 a couple times early in the week.

As of 1:30 p.m. ET Friday, Chicago is actually seeing the bulk of early spread play, at 70% of tickets/63% of money.

DK's total is at 44.5, down from a 45.5 opener and a short-lived high point of 46.5 Monday. Ticket count is almost dead even, and 61% of cash is on the Under.

It's going to be cold Saturday night, with temperatures in the high 20s/low 30s. And winds of 15-25 mph will surely make it feel colder.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: The Packers-Bears spread has seen a modest move in Borgata Sports' NFL Wild Card odds. Chicago opened as 1-point home chalk, and the line is at pick 'em on Wednesday.

"As one would expect from a game lined around pick ‘em, wagering is pretty balanced on the sides," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "The most popular Saturday teaser thus far: teasing the Rams down to -4, paired with the Bears to +6."

Borgata's total is down a notch from 46.5 to 46.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Chicago (11-6 SU/10-6-1 ATS) kept the No. 2 seed despite losing in Week 18, thanks to Philly also falling. The Bears were in a 16-0 hole vs. Detroit by late in the third quarter, then rallied to tie it at 16 with 5:25 remaining.

But Chicago allowed a field goal as time expired in a 19-16 setback laying 3 points at home. The Bears enter the playoffs on an 0-2 SU and ATS hiccup.

Green Bay (9-7-1 SU/6-11 ATS) had nothing to play for in Week 18, stuck at the No. 7 seed, and accordingly rested its starters. The Packers lost to Minnesota 16-3, pushing as 13-point road underdogs.

Jordan Love & Co. have lost four in a row (0-3-1 ATS) heading to postseason play. That includes a 22-16 overtime loss at Chicago catching 1 point in Week 16. In Week 14, the Pack beat the Bears 28-21 giving 6.5 points at home.

For the third meeting, Chicago opened as 1-point home chalk in The SuperBook's NFL Wild Card Playoff odds.

"Packers-Bears will write very good two-way action. I don't expect to know who we'll be rooting for until kickoff," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.

While the spread is stable Sunday night, the total is up a point to 46.5.

GAME DAY UPDATE: With kickoff 75 minutes out, Los Angeles is laying 10 points in BetMGM's NFL Wild Card Playoff odds. The Rams opened -10 on Sunday and advanced to -10.5 Tuesday, with the return to -10 taking place in the last 30 minutes.

"We'll need the Panthers to cover, and an upset would be fine too," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said, noting the Rams lead off an abundance of moneyline parlays.

The total is at 45, having just moved down from 46, after opening at 46.5 and sitting there until Thursday. As Cipollini has said all season, even if straight bets favor the Under, BetMGM almost always needs the Under, due to the proliferation of same-game parlays.

LATE WEEK UPDATE: DraftKings Sportsbook is at Rams -10.5 (-105) as of 1:30 p.m. ET Friday, and in fact has been at some iteration of Rams -10.5 almost all week. Los Angeles opened -9.5 on Sunday and went to -10/-10.5 on Monday.

Interestingly, the Panthers are actually taking 62% of spread bets thus far, and spread money is dead even. But the Rams are seeing heavy moneyline play, with no doubt that a lot of that action is tied to moneyline parlays.

DraftKings' total is at 45.5 (Over -115), moving off the 46.5 opener on Thursday afternoon. The Over is seeing 61% of bets/71% of money in NFL Wild Card odds.

MIDWEEK UPDATE: The Rams are up a tick in Borgata Sports' NFL Wild Card playoff odds, advancing from -10 to -10.5, where the line sits at 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday.

"It's been mostly Rams money since opening," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said, while noting the total is stable at 46.5. "Not a lot of action on the total yet, but what has come in has been relatively balanced."

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Los Angeles (12-5 SU/11-6 ATS) secured the No. 5 seed and perhaps the most ideal Wild Card matchup. The Rams rolled over Arizona 37-20 to cash as 14-point favorites.

No. 4 seed Carolina (8-9 SU/9-8 ATS) semi-backed into the NFC playoffs. In Week 18, the Panthers lost to Tampa Bay 16-14 while covering as 3-point road 'dogs. That put Carolina in a tie with Tampa at 8-9 SU.

So the Panthers needed Atlanta to beat New Orleans and forge a three-way tie atop the NFC South. That happened, and Carolina won the three-way tiebreaker.

The Rams might not mind traveling to face a team with a losing record. But keep in mind that Carolina beat L.A. 31-28 as a 10-point home underdog in Week 13.

Late Sunday night, The SuperBook opened the Rams as 10-point favorites in NFL Wild Card Odds.

"I think this game will write two-way action on the spread," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said. "But I imagine there will be lots of moneyline parlays and teasers involving the Rams, especially with this being the first game on the slate. So we'll need Carolina."
