Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Seattle Seahawks Predictions

This weekend we have the 1-5 Jaguars traveling to Seattle to take on the 2-5 Seahawks. The Jaguars snapped their winless streak in London against the Dolphins during Week 6, and will be looking to continue that momentum off a bye against a Seahawks team that doesn’t have its best player. Neither of these teams are playing well, but the Seahawks are especially disappointing. While they are missing franchise quarterback Russell Wilson and instead starting veteran backup Geno Smith, this team hasn't looked impressive all year.

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Dan Arnold is one of the more unique tight ends in football considering he is someone that can space the field a lot better than most tight ends. Since traded from the Carolina Panthers to the Jaguars, Arnold has caught eight passes for 91 yards with 13 targets and 55 routes run. Despite the fact that he likely knew very little of the playbook, Arnold immediately joined this team and served as a safety blanket for rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. This team went out and traded a former first round pick for Arnold, it's clear they want to get him involved in this offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 1-5
  • ATS: 2-4
  • O/U: 2-4
  • ATS - Home: 1-3
  • ATS - Away: 1-1

The Jaguars drafted Lawrence No. 1 overall this offseason, but it's definitely been a bit of a rocky start. There is a lot of good news, normally when you have a rookie quarterback in a struggling offense its because you can't move the ball down the field (think Zach Wilson and the Jets). That's not the case here, as Lawrence has actually looked commanding driving the ball down the field but has struggled with both turnovers and redzone production.

When just looking at the offensive side of the ball, I actually give Lawrence a bit of an edge over Smith. Over the last couple of weeks, Lawrence looked more and more comfortable - showing flashes of why he was selected first and seen as a generational prospect. We've already acknowledged the turnovers are significan,t but if they can win that battle then I think they can both cover this game and actually get this win. The spread pick is much safer, giving us wiggle room for a field goal victory.

The Jaguars have been dealing with a lot of off-field drama, but they have one of the highest-rated rookies at quarterback this year. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will be leaning on veteran leadership in this one. It’s going to be a classic battle between youth and experience.

Seattle Seahawks Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 2-5
  • ATS: 4-3
  • O/U: 1-5-1
  • ATS - Home: 1-2
  • ATS - Away: 3-1

While they are missing franchise quarterback Wilson, and instead starting veteran backup Smith, this team hasn't looked impressive all year. While trusting Smith to score points is a tough ask, both of these teams could struggle mightily on defense. The more I think about this, it could be a very sneaky cover/upset spot for the Jaguars. If they can get this offense going after a full bye week to work on a game plan, I could see this game staying very close.

Getting star receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett more involved in this game would certainly help. This is obviously one of the most talented wide receiver duos in the league and their lack of involvement in the offense needs to change ASAP.

If you're a Seahawks fan, don't panic quite yet. The Seahawks have gotten very good at running the ball and controlling the clock. They should do their best to keep the ball out of Lawrence's and continue to establish the run. Alex Collins has been fairly impressive, despite some really tough matchups like the Steelers, but now gets a great matchup against Jacksonville. Nobody on this Jacksonville defense has really scared me this season, I'm not worried about it one bit.

The Seattle Seahawks have covered the spread in six of their last seven games after losing the game prior. (AP)

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Conclusion

Overall, this is one of those games that could be really good. With a 3.5-point spread, this game feels ripe for a 24-21 result which lines up great for the over here. This handicap is fairly simple, play the over when you have two bad defenses. It’s a bit tougher when you have good name value with teams like the Seahawks but frankly, that defense hasn’t impressed anyone so far this season.
