Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Jets Predictions

It’s been an up and down season for the Philadelphia Eagles. They have looked downright dangerous some weeks and relatively harmless in other weeks. Philadelphia laid an egg on the road against the New York Giants last week, and the Eagles are looking to erase that performance when they take on the New York Jets in MetLife Stadium this week.

The Jets have been dangerous at home this season. They rose up to knock off Tennessee and Cincinnati earlier in the year, and they nearly beat Miami here two weeks ago. Philadelphia will be able to stave off Gang Green, but it will be close.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-7
  • ATS: 6-6
  • O/U: 6-6
  • ATS - Home: 2-3
  • ATS - Away: 4-3

Jalen Hurts has not thrown the ball well in his last two starts. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 147 yards against New Orleans, and he completed just 45.2% of his passes for 4.2 YPA with three interceptions in last week’s loss to the Giants.

Hurts is the second-most dangerous running quarterback behind Lamar Jackson, and he leads the Eagles with 695 rushing yards (5.7 YPC) and eight touchdowns. However, he is dealing with a sprained ankle and is considered a toss-up to play in this game. If he does play, he will be limited and won’t have the same mobility, so Gardner Minshew might be the better option.

Jordan Howard is out, and Boston Scott is questionable to play on Sunday too. That means Miles Sanders will see the bulk of the carries for the Eagles. Sanders has run for 458 yards (5.2 YPC) this season, but he has yet to find the end zone.

DeVonta Smith is the leading receiver for the Eagles. The rookie from Alabama has 48 receptions for 686 yards and four touchdowns, and he can stretch the field for Philly. Tight end Dallas Goedert has been able to fill the shoes of Zach Ertz too, catching 35 passes for 491 yards and two scores.

The Eagles are stopping the run well, allowing 4.0 YPC. The pass defense has been slightly above average, but this is one of the worst defenses when it comes to getting to the quarterback.

New York Jets Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 3-8
  • ATS: 3-8
  • O/U: 6-5
  • ATS - Home: 2-3
  • ATS - Away: 1-5

Rookie Zach Wilson is not having a good first season. Wilson returned from injury last week, and he was able to do enough to help lead the Jets past the lowly Houston Texans. However, he is completing just 57.6% of his passes for touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Leading rusher Michael Carter is on injured reserve. Carter is averaging just 3.9 YPC though, and Ty Johnson has been able to match that average in place of him. Tevin Coleman will receive some carries too.

Fellow rookie Elijah Moore is quickly becoming the best receiver on the roster. Moore got off to a slow start this season, but he has 28 receptions for 382 yards and four touchdowns in his last five games. Corey Davis is a deep threat, but he is questionable to play with a strained groin.

The Jets don’t have a great defense. They rank dead last in scoring defense and yards per play. New York is not forcing a lot of turnovers, but the front seven has done a decent job with the pass rush. That could bode well against a slowed Hurts or a less mobile Minshew.

New York has gone OVER the point total in four of its last five games after winning the game prior. (AP)

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Jets Betting Conclusion

A fully healthy Hurts would probably lead the Eagles to a cover, but his injury is going to lead to this game being close.
