The American League wildcard race is shaping up to be a sprint to the finish with six teams within two games of each other.  

The Seattle Mariners picked a win in Los Angeles with four runs in the top of the 9^th inning to steal one from the Angels. The Mariners' win has propelled them to sole possession of the top wildcard spot by just a half a game over both the Blue Jays and Rays. Currently on the outside looking in and down by two games, the Orioles, Twins and White Sox are in hot pursuit for a chance to play in October.

The Los Angeles Angels' 2022 season can only be described as tumultuous and chaotic. The Angels have endured multiple losing streaks, had their manage fired, and Trout had his first serious and long-term injury which has significantly damaged his season. While the prognosis has not been good this season, the Angels are still not out of the playoff race just yet. They are 11 games back from securing a wildcard spot, and this series could help their cause. Without Trout, trading away Marsh, and trading away Syndergaard their road to success got a little harder.

Robbie Ray owns a 3.90 season ERA with a 1.19 WHIP spanning 136 innings. He has allowed 113 hits, 22 home runs, struck out 156 strikeouts, and issued 49 free passes.

The Angels will counter with Jose Suarez who is 4-4 on the season with a 4.04 ERA. He is also in good form as of late not allowing a run in three straight starts spanning 17.1 innings. Admittedly those three starts were against weaker offensive teams in the Athletics and Royals. In two starts against the Mariners this season Suarez has allowed just one earned run in 10.1 innings. The Angels at an underdog price might intrigue a few bettors.

The total is currently set to 7.5 with the under coming in at -105. The over is -115. These clubs have trended in opposite directions on the total. The total has gone over at a 3-0-2 clip on the last five games for the Mariners and at a 5-0-2 clip in the last seven on the road. The Angels have seen the total go over just one time in their last six overall. The last five meetings between these two teams have seen the over hit at a 3-1-1, but the under is 3-1-1 in the last five meeting in Los Angeles.
