This is the first of three games this week in this American League West Coast/East Coast tilt. Boston already has the 3-0 season series edge after pulling off the three-game road sweep in early June. The Red Sox won those three games by a combined score of 20-4.

Caesars Sportsbook has opened Boston as a heavy -210 home favorite for Tuesday’s 7:10 p.m. (ET) start at Fenway. The total line on its MLB odds page is set at 9.5 runs. Going back to the end of May, Oakland has just one straight-up win in its last 12 games. The A’s dropped three of four against Cleveland on the road this past weekend.

Boston comes into this series 9-2 SU in its last 11 games. The team improved to 32-29 overall after winning two of three games on the road against Seattle. This ended a 10-game West Coast road trip that started with those three lopsided victories in Oakland.

The A’s are already 17 games off the pace in the AL West standings at 21-41 overall. Boston has some major ground to makeup in the AL East against the surging New York Yankees. However, the Red Sox remain in the thick of the AL wild card race with a winning record.

Oakland will go with Jared Koenig as its starter for Tuesday night’s series opener. The left hander got blown out in his only previous start against Atlanta on June 8. He allowed four earned runs on five hits in just four innings of work.

Nick Pivetta is expected to get the start for Boston. At 5-5 overall, this will be his 13th start of year behind an ERA of 3.78 and a 1.14 WHIP. The right hander faced Oakland on June 4 and looked sharp through seven full innings of work. He gave up two hits and no earned runs in Boston’s 8-0 shutout.

Oakland has lost six of its last seven games against Boston overall. The A’s are just 5-13 in their last 18 trips to Fenway Park.
