Both the Panthers and Giants enter the matchup off an emotional slugfest in week one. The Panthers lost 26-24 to the Browns on a last-second field goal in Baker Mayfield’s first matchup against his former team, while the Giants pulled off a 21-20 upset in Tennessee after Titans’ kicker Randy Bullock missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired.

The host Giants opened as one-point favorites, but the line reopened at 2.5 shaded towards the Panthers following Sunday’s action. The total has held firm at 42.5, currently tied for the second lowest total of the week.

New York is led by first-year head coach Brian Daboll. The Giants kept the ball on the ground often in their first game under the former Bills offensive coordinator, running 32 times compared to 21 pass attempts. However, the pass attempts showed greater efficiency than in years’ past. Fourth-year quarterback Daniel Jones completed 80.1% of his passes and for nine yards per attempt in the season opener, up from 64.3% and 6.7, respectively in 2021.

The Giant defense limited Tennessee’s potent rushing attack in week one, allowing just 3.6 yards per carry and no rushing scores. The unit buckled down in the second half, allowing just seven points after halftime to afford the offense the opportunity to comeback from a 13-0 deficit.

Carolina’s offense struggled out of the gate against Cleveland but picked up the pace in the fourth quarter. After scoring just seven points in the first three quarters, the Panthers scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to nearly steal a win after falling in a 13-point hole. After winning the job in the preseason, quarterback Baker Mayfield needed just 27 pass attempts to total 235 yards, good for 8.7 yards per attempt. Robbie Anderson was Mayfield’s top target – the Temple product caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers limited Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett to just 4.3 yards per attempt, but the unit struggled mightily against the Browns’ top tier rushing attack. Cleveland amassed 217 yards, led by 141 yards on 22 carries by Nick Chubb. The Giants’ Saquon Barkely went for 164 yards on 18 carries in week one.

The Giants, who went 3-5 straight up at MetLife stadium in 2021, will look to build off their first season-opening win in six seasons in Daboll’s second game at the helm. The Panthers will look to bounce back as head coach Matt Rhule’s seat gets hotter following the team’s eighth consecutive loss dating back to last season.

The teams met in New Jersey last October, with the Giants prevailing 25-3 behind four forced turnovers.  This year’s matchup is set to kickoff at 1 p.m./10 a.m. EST/PST.
