Duke vs Houston Picks & Prediction

Duke has taken care of business in its first two games against Vermont and James Madison to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time under head coach Jon Scheyer.

The Blue Devils are making a huge jump in class here following consecutive blowouts, but face top-seeded Houston, who survived a major scare from Texas A&M in a 100-95 overtime triumph on Sunday.

The Cougars were in control with 1:30 left by leading, 82-71, but the Aggies outscored Houston, 15-4 to force overtime. Houston staved off A&M, but failed to cover as 8.5-point favorites.

Duke has lost in both opportunities as an underdog this season to North Carolina and Wake Forest, while owning a dreadful 1-5 SU/ATS mark as a 'dog under Scheyer.

Houston ranks 10th in the country in defending the 3-point shot at 30%, while limiting opponents to 43.1% shooting on 2-point tries, which is 3rd.

Since allowing Iowa State to convert on 57.1% of its 2-point attempts in the Big 12 championship, Houston has yielded 39.3% shooting to Longwood and 40.4% shooting to Texas A&M on 2-pointers.

Duke's Jared McCain shot 7-of-26 from 3-point range in his first six games in March before knocking down 8-of-11 from downtown against James Madison.

Look for Houston to put together a strong defensive effort and slow down Duke to advance to the Elite Eight.
