MIAMI FLORIDA HURRICANES vs. AUBURN TIGERS PREDICTIONS

Miami opened up tournament play with a thrilling two-point win over USC as a 2.5-point underdog. The Hurricanes have now won eight of their last 11 games straight-up. They bowed out of the recent ACC Tournament in the semifinal round with a six-point loss to top-seeded Duke as nine-point underdogs.

Auburn made an unexpected early departure from this year’s SEC Tournament with a five-point loss to Texas A&M as a nine-point favorite. The Tigers won the SEC regular season title with a SU record of 15-3. In Friday’s NCAA Tournament opener, they were back in championship form with a lopsided 19-point victory against Jacksonville State to cover the closing 14.5-point spread.

These two teams have never faced one another before. Yet, they matchup well on both ends of the court. Miami has already proven it can hang tough against some of the best teams in the nation and I like the Hurricanes’ chances to keep Sunday night’s game interesting down to the final minutes. Auburn moves on to the Sweet 16 but take Miami and the points as the best bet.

MIAMI FLORIDA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 24-10
  • ATS: 19-15
  • O/U: 18-15-1

Going back to a nine-point victory against Georgia Tech on Feb. 9 as eight-point favorites, the Hurricanes have been able to cover in eight of their last 11 games. During that run, they beat Wake Forest and Syracuse SU as underdogs before giving Duke all it could handle back on March 11. The total stayed UNDER 139.5 points in Friday’s 68-66 win against USC after going OVER in six of the previous seven outings.

Miami is 24-10 SU overall with a 19-15 record against the spread. As a plus for this game, it is 10-2 ATS this season when closing as an underdog. The Hurricanes are 3-4 ATS in seven previous neutral-site games this season. The total has gone OVER in 20 of their 34 games.

Charlie Moore scored 16 points in the win against USC and he knocked down a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to help secure the win. Isaiah Wong led the Hurricanes in scoring with 22 points before fouling out in the final two minutes. Miami built an 11-point lead at the half and led this game 65-58 with 44 seconds left to play.

The Hurricanes shot 42.9% from the field on Friday but they only hit one three-point shot on 14 attempts. They also lost the battle under the boards with just 26 total rebounds against the Trojans’ 38. Miami went 19-for-25 from the foul line. Going back over the team’s last six games win or lose, the Hurricanes have not allowed more than 72 points in five of those matchups.

AUBURN TIGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 28-5
  • ATS: 20-12-1
  • O/U: 19-14

Going back to a SU win against Missouri in late January, Auburn is 10-4 SU in its last 14 games. However, that record plumets to 5-8-1 ATS during that same span. The cover against Jacksonville State was just its second ATS win in the last eight games. The total went OVER 140 points on Friday and it has gone OVER in four of Auburn’s last six contests.

The Tigers come into the second round at 28-5 SU overall. They have posted a 20-12-1 record ATS with a 19-10-1 mark covering the closing number as favorites. They went 4-2 ATS in six previous games played at a neutral site and the total went OVER in 19 of 33 games this season.

Jabari Smith had the hot hand for Auburn in Friday’s win with 20 points while posting a double- double with 14 rebounds. Walker Kessler’s stat line was equally impressive with 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots. One injury note, Jaylin Williams took a blow to the head and he is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

The Tigers shot 44.4% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range on Friday. They were 15-for-22 from the free throw line. They had a huge 50-32 edge under the boards with 19 rebounds on offense.

Auburn has won 1H in 20 of its last 25 games vs. a non-AP-ranked school. (AP)

MIAMI FLORIDA HURRICANES vs. AUBURN TIGERS BETTING CONCLUSION

Auburn is clearly the better overall team but the Hurricanes remain scrappy enough to make the No. 2 seed work for this win. Miami also gets the edge as a much more reliable betting team ATS.
