2022 ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Arizona State had yet another mediocre season in 2021 under Head Coach Herm Edwards, finishing 8-5 SU. The Sun Devils have lost numerous players to the draft and transfer portal, but Edwards has done a respectable job bringing talent in to fill in the missing pieces. I do not expect them to compete for a PAC-12 championship but covering their win total of 6.5 (+100) is doable.

The Sun Devils finished last season averaging 386 total yards and 28.0 points per game. Losing quarterback Jay Daniels to LSU is a big loss but Alabama transfer Paul Tyson and Florida transfer Emory Jones (2,734 YDS, 19 TD, 14 INT) are respectable replacements. Wide Receiver Cam Johnson (34 REC, 327 YDS, 4 TD) comes in from Vanderbilt to help with the loss of multiple receivers. The run game should be solid with Wyoming transfer Xazavian Valladay (209 ATT, 1,070 YDS, 6 TD) coming into lead the backfield. Arizona State’s defense led the Pac-12 in total defense and should have a good group again this season.

Looking at their schedule, the Sun Devils are in nice position to cover their win total. Road games at Oklahoma State and USC will be their toughest games of the season, but a win in one of those games is not out of the question. The Sun Devils lucked out and do not have to play Oregon and get to play UCLA at home. Arizona State will let you down at some point this season, but they also may surprise you in a game they should not win. Best for the Sun Devils is over 6.5 wins (+100).

With Pac-12's new rule change Arizona State would have to have one of the top two records in the conference to play in the PAC-12 championship game. Between Oregon, Utah, USC, and a UCLA program that is on the rise, I do not see the Sun Devils making it. Too many changes have occurred from last season to this one for that kind of success. They may be the best longshot in the conference, but there is little hope for this wager.

If Arizona State manages to go undefeated, they would without a doubt be in the conversation. However, this team does not have quite enough talent to do so, especially in the Pac-12 conference which is filled with talent from top to bottom. There are a couple Pac-12 teams that could be in contention for the National Championship towards the end of the season, but Arizona state is not one of them.

I do not hate this bet. Arizona State plays enough big-name schools throughout the season for Jones to get National attention and you just never know what these young men are capable of. Coming from the SEC does not hurt either as he has big game experience. Jones is not my favorite to win Heisman by any means, but a small wager here is not a bad play considering the juice.
