2022 ARKANSAS STATE RED WOLVES BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Second year head coach Butch Jones will look to rebound after a 2-10 SU 2021 season. While the Red Wolves have struggled the past few seasons, the former Tennessee coach has potential to turn this ship around. Arkansas State will have to win more than twice as many games as last season to cover their win total of five, which is achievable looking at their schedule. However, the Red Wolves lost 12 players to the transfer portal so easier said than done.  

Arkansas State’s offensive line struggled last season, but their passing attack was one of the best in the Sun Belt, averaging close to 400 yards and 25.0 points per game. QB1 James Blackman (1,334 YDS, 8 TD, 4 INT) will return after missing the second half of the season with a shoulder injury, but the Red Wolves did lose top wide receiver Corey Rucker to South Carolina. Veterans Te’Vailiance Hunt and Jeff Foreman will step up and become Blackman’s go to targets. The running game will need to be better as well as the defense who ranked last in the nation against the run and allowed 506 total yards and 39 points per game last season.  

I do not expect Arkansas State to be in contention for the Sun Belt Championship but based on their schedule they do have an opportunity to cover their win total of five. They will more than likely start their season 1-2 SU with games against Grambling, Ohio State, and Memphis. After that, things get a bit easier for the Red Wolves as they avoid Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Georgia State. Realistically, Arkansas State has eight winnable games on their schedule and for that reason taking the over five wins (-120) is the bet here.

It would be quite the turnaround for Arkansas State to go from last place of the West Division to winners of the Sun Belt Championship. I do not anticipate that happening, but it would be a lot easier to go from last to first in the West than against the top dogs of the East. I would not recommend this bet, but Arkansas State does have an easy enough schedule to see some success this season.

If you are interested in this bet, I would recommend playing the Red Wolves moneyline against the Buckeyes in week two. That game will probably be the closest thing to a National Championship Arkansas State sees in quite some time. I'm all for placing some fun unrealistic wagers, but this one should not even have odds available.
