2022 AUBURN TIGERS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Tigers didn't have the kind of season folks on The Plains have been used to, going 6-7 with a loss to Houston in their backyard at the Birmingham Bowl. The bowl loss was a fifth consecutive setback after a 6-2 start, and you don't see many five-game losing skids in the SEC which do not result in a firing.

Head coach Bryan Harsin is on the hot seat, but he received a lukewarm vote of confidence in the offseason, especially after a program investigation shortly after season's end. He'll need to get his recruiting act together and get this team to turn things around quickly, as Tigers fans at least want to keep rival Alabama within arm's length, and right now that's just not the case.

The good news for Tigers fans is that RB Tank Bigsby, who rushed for 1,003 yards and 10 touchdowns, returns. He and RB Jarquez Hunter are a nice one-two punch, and that will take the pressure off the pass game.

QB Bo Nix transferred to Oregon after an uneven couple of season's at his dad's alma mater. QB T.J. Finley returns, but he isn't guaranteed of the job, as Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada will get a look, as well as Oregon transfer Robby Ashford. Redshirt freshman Dematrius Davis and true freshman Holden Geriner are also in the mix in a crowded quarterback room. They'll need a lot more stability than they received from Nix if this team wants to go bowling again.

Unfortunately for whomever takes over under center, the receiving corps is in shambles. Top receivers from 2021-22, Kobe Hudson (40-523-3), Ja'Varrius Johnson (18-254-2) and Demetris Robertson (35-474-4) are all gone. Those three receivers were the only pass catchers to post multiple receiving touchdowns last season. The best returning options are WR Shedrick Jackson (38-514-1) and TE John Samuel Shenker (28-359-0), but they need more - a lot more.

On defense, the team has a little more depth, with Derick Hall and Colby Wooden leading the way up front. Transfers will hopefully be able to fill the void for new defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding's unit.

A weak non-conference schedule will give the Tigers some easy victories, and it should be able to pick up three or four more wins during the conference portion of the schedule. But with trips to Georgia and Alabama, and tough home dates against LSU, Penn State and Texas A&M, this team will do well to level up at 6-6.

AUBURN TIGERS ODDS TO WIN SEC CHAMPIONSHIP

+10000

This team isn't in good position to compete for trophies. Harsin is just trying to keep his head above water with a gang of newcomers at quarterback and a mediocre receivers unit looking to jell. Heaven help Auburn should anything happen to knock Bigsby out, as he is the team's only hope. Take a hard pass on this prop, as Auburn will do well to finish .500.

AUBURN TIGERS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+8000

Again, Auburn isn't competing for a championship this season. It's probably years from getting back into the national title picture, and it might not happen under the current administration's watch.

AUBURN TIGERS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS

Zach Calzada (QB) +8000

Tank Bigsby (RB) +10000

If anyone has a shot at some Heisman chatter, it is definitely Bigsby. However, after some lopsided wins early on against the likes of Mercer, San Jose State, etc., reality should set in by early October. Bigsby is a nice player in the mold of a Rudi Johnson, Onterio McCalebb or Cadillac Williams, but he isn't going to be the next Bo Jackson, taking home hardware from New York. Take a hard pass on any Tigers here.
