2021 California Golden Bears Betting Odds, Predictions, Preview
The Golden Bears were limited to just four games in the topsy-turvy season of COVID-19 in 2020, but the outlook should be much brighter heading into 2021.
California picked up just one victory in those four games, and it was a stunning 21-17 win in Berkeley on Dec. 5, which essentially served as a bowl game for the Golden Bears. It was also their only cover, as they were 1-2-1 ATS.
The shortened season and lack of practice time really stunted the growth of the relationship between offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and potential breakout QB Chase Garbers. With a little more normalcy this offseason, there could be a lot more fruit to bare when the games get underway this fall. Garbers will also have the luxury of playing behind four returning starting offensive linemen, and he will have plenty of talent in the backfield with him. A good run game will take some of the pressure off of him.
Cal's offense cobbled together just 20.2 PPG on offense, but that's a little misleading considering they played just four games. That could have easily been rectified with just one big game, and in Pac-12 After Dark games, those always seem to come. Garbers will have plenty of practice time this summer to jell with true freshman potential breakout TE Jermaine Terry, as well as star in the making WR Jeremiah Hunter.
California has some potential on defense, as LBs Kuony Deng and Cameron Goode are one of the better one-two punches in the league. The defensive backfield is littered with talent, too, but there are plenty of questions up front, and if Cal will be able to pressure the opposing quarterback enough. The Golden Bears need defensive lineman JH Tevis to really emerge as a special player.
The non-conference schedule is rather challenging, as facing down Nevada QB Carson Strong in the opener is a tough assignment, and a trip to TCU is a daunting task. The Bears could very well be 0-2 heading into a date with FCS Sacramento State on Sept. 18.
The league schedule is rather challenging with trips to Oregon and Washington, and they get USC at home. The good news is that they miss Arizona State and Utah. But they'll be hard-pressed to qualify for a bowl with this challenging slate of games, and they might need to start out 2-1 if they plan on doing a little bowling this season.

California Odds to win 2021 Pac-12 Championship
The Golden Bears are going to be struggling just to try and get to bowl eligibility, and a championship run isn't really in the card. Save your money.
California Odds to Win 2021-22 College Football Playoff
Cal isn't a legitimate threat to compete for a division title in the Pac-12, let alone play for a national championship. Aaron Rodgers isn't walking through that door. Marshawn Lynch isn't walking through that door. And even when those guys were in Berkeley, Cal still was just a very good team, and not championship caliber.
