2022 Central Michigan Chippewas Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Chippewas of Central Michigan started off slowly, going 2-3 SU in the first five games, but CMU finished strong with six victories in the final seven regular-season games. Central Michigan was expected to play in the Arizona Bowl, but Boise State opted out due to COVID-19, leaving the Chippewas without an opponent. Washington State also saw Miami-Florida opt out of the Sun Bowl due to the same reasons, so CMU went to El Paso to face Washington State, and received a much bigger pay day in the process. And to make matters even better, CMU topped Wazzu 24-21 to win a bowl for the first time in nine years.

Central Michigan returns leading rusher RB Lew Nichols III, who rolled up 1,848 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground in 2021. The good news for head coach Dave McIlwain is that QB Daniel Richardson is back, too. He completed 61.3% of his pass attempts for 2,424 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions in the regular season. But unfortunately, WRs Kalil Pimpleton and JaCorey Sullivan need to be replaced. Two offensive linemen were also drafted to the NFL, obviously needing replacement.

WR Dallas Dixon (45-701-8) will emerge as the next great Chips receiver, and TE Joel Wilson (28-326-5) is going to be a force to be reckoned with if he can take another step forward.

On the defensive side of the ball, tackle machine and leader LB Troy Brown is also gone, while DL Troy Hairston II and DB Devonni Reed have also departed.

The non-conference schedule is so-so, as trips to Oklahoma State and Penn State will be difficult. Home games against South Alabama and Bucknell should have the Chips 2-2 heading into conference play. The MAC schedule opens at Toledo, a difficult game, but crossover games do not include Miami-Ohio or Kent State, two teams expected to be atop the East Division standings. It wouldn't be surprising to see the season play out like it did last season. CMU gets off to a slow start, might even have a losing record in early October, before powering down the stretch to seven or eight victories and another bowl appearance. The lean is to the OVER, mainly due to a favorable conference schedule setup.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS ODDS TO WIN MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

+450

McIlwain's Chippewas have some rather short odds despite the fact they have so many key holes to fill. The West Division is stacked with Northern Illinois and Toledo each expected to win the division. CMU has to go on the road to face both of those teams, and therefore I expect the Chips to become bowl eligible, but not sniff a trip down to Detroit from Mount Pleasant.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+200000

Hey, Central Michigan does lay claim to the Division II national championship back in 1974. And not that we're remotely thinking CMU would have a chance, even if it ran the table and went 12-0, but the Chips will be officially eliminated by the end of September after losses to OK State and Penn State.
