2022 Charlotte 49ers Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 CHARLOTTE 49ERS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The 49ers of Charlotte started out well enough in 2021, going 3-1 with the school's first-ever victory over a Power 5 team. The 49ers topped Duke 31-28 as 6-point underdogs in the opener Sept. 3, and it looked like it might be a magical season. The 49ers also had a close game at Illinois, falling 24-14, before throttling FIU 45-33 in Miami.

At 4-2, things were looking good for bowl eligibility, but they were hammered by 29 or more points in two straight against FAU and at Western Kentucky, taking away from shine. The 49ers topped Rice 31-24 in overtime on Nov. 6 to inch within a game of bowl eligibility, but ended up going 0-3 with three straight double-digit losses to end on a low note.

The good news for the 49ers is that QB Chris Reynolds is back under center again in 2022. He is an experienced signal caller, and a veteran leader with some dual-threat ability. He'll also have his top trio of WRs - Grant Dubose (62-892-6), Elijah Spencer (28-381-6) and Victor Tucker (51-639-2) back. RBs Calvin Camp (62-892-6) is joined by Shadrick Byrd (20-248-2) in the backfield, which a solid tandem.

The 49ers were terrible on defense in pass efficiency, especially in the three-game losing skid to close out the season. It won't get much better, at least initially, as three of the team's top tacklers are gone. They will lean heavily upon DL Amir Siddiq, who transfers in from Central Michigan. The secondary will be the pillar of strength for this defense, especially in the early going.

The 49ers open CUSA play at FAU, so it will be difficult right out of the gate, and a home game against Maryland will be tough, too. In fact, the non-conference schedule will be rough, with a late September trip down to South Carolina, too. It's likely the 49ers will open 1-4 or 2-3 in the first five games. The good news is that Charlotte misses UTSA on the conference schedule. And unlike last season, the 49ers should finish up strong with very winnable games against FIU, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee and Rice in the final two months.

The 49ers are a good bet to grab at least five wins, and it wouldn't be shocking to see them sneak into bowl eligibility.

CHARLOTTE 49ERS ODDS TO WIN C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP

+2500

The 49ers will have their hands full just attaining bowl eligibility. It's extremely unlikely Charlotte will be anywhere near one of the top two spots in the league to qualify for the title game.

CHARLOTTE 49ERS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+250000

The 49ers aren't going to qualify for the College Football Playoff - ever. This is a beautiful campus, a commuter school and Charlotte has had a nice history on the hardwood. But on the gridiron it's a struggle each season just to make it to .500 and qualify for a bowl. If you want national titles, slide down I-85 an hour or two to Clemson.
