2022 Eastern Michigan Eagles Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 EASTERN MICHIGAN EAGLES BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Eagles of EMU started out impressive enough, especially on offense, going for 35 or more points in three of its first four games to open 3-1. The only loss was at Wisconsin, which isn't a huge surprise. Inside conference play the Eagles ended up going 4-4, but three of the losses were one-score games. So a good season easily could've been great if not for a couple of breaks and miscues.

Unfortunately for Eastern Michigan, the season ended on a sour note, falling 56-20 to Liberty in the LendingTree Bowl. It looks like EMU should've borrowed some offense in that one.

The good news for head coach Scott Creighton and the staff in Ypsilanti is that the Eagles have a ton of talent returning. The bad news is that the team must replace QB Ben Bryant, who headed for Cincinnati after the season. QB Preston Hutchinson also dipped for an opportunity at FCS Chattanooga, leaving remaining signal caller Austin Smith to be the de facto incumbent. QB Cam'Ron McCoy comes in from Cincinnati and will challenge for the job, however, and college journeyman Taylor Powell, who has had stops at Mizzou and Troy, is also in the mix.

WR Hassan Beydoun (97-1015-4) was a stud last season, and he'll make whomever emerges as the starter under center great. WR Dylan Drummond (64-704-6) also returns after a stellar season playing second fiddle to Beydoun. In addition to the top two returning receivers, the starting QB also has four of five O-linemen back.

The defense had its issues at times, and really was exposed in the bowl loss. Overall EMU allowed 27.8 PPG in the regular season, good for just 82nd, while yielding an unseemly 430.9 yards per game. The Eagles were trampled in the run game, too, allowing just short of 200 yards per outing, or 113th in the nation. Like everywhere else, the transfer portal was used to try and shore things up, but it remains to be seen how well the team did there.

The opening three games feature an FCS home games and likely win, followed by two tough road trips. There is a crossover game against Buffalo to kick off conference play, but the Bulls aren't the same as usual. The Eagles could very well start out 3-2 if things break right. But the conference schedule features some difficult games, especially with trips to Kalamazoo and Kent. At least EMU misses Miami-Ohio in the crossover, but UNDER looks like the best bet here. Breaking in a new QB, and the defensive issues, scare me, although I think it will win six and go bowling again.

Best Bet: Eastern Michigan UNDER 6.5 wins (+135)

EASTERN MICHIGAN EAGLES ODDS TO WIN MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

+1600

I don't like the fact Eastern has an unsettled situation at quarterback, although whomever starts could be awfully good with the talent at receiver. And the defense really needs to show me something before I see this team as anything more than a .500 club. They're not likely taking the short jaunt down I-94 to Ford Field this season, so don't waste your bread.

EASTERN MICHIGAN EAGLES ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+200000

If Eastern Michigan wins the national championship in football, I'll smash head first into their cinder block wall the team crashes through before games. I'll then let someone hit me in the face with one of the sledgehammers they use to topple the wall, and then eat five yards of that ugly gray fieldturf at Rynearson Stadium. Bet?
