2021 Indiana Hoosiers Betting Odds, Predictions, Preview
The Hoosiers enjoyed a fantastic 2020 season, rolling to a 4-0 record and a Top 10 ranking at one point, before a near-miss at Ohio State on Nov. 21. That 42-35 loss to the Buckeyes was still very impressive, and was one of their seven covers in seven regular-season games. They bounced back after that loss and headed to the Outback Bowl with a No. 7 ranking. Unfortunately for Indiana, they suffered a 26-20 loss against Mississippi on Jan. 2, failing outright as nine-point favorites.
The Hoosiers head into this season with much higher expectations than they did at this time last year. Of course, this time last year, they weren't even sure there would be a Big 10 season. Anyway, the Hoosiers will be shooting to finish with a Top 25 ranking in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1945-46, and there is a very good chance they do just that.
A lot of their potential success in 2021 hinges on the health of QB Michael Penix Jr., who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament against Maryland on Nov. 28. The good news is that the quarterback posted a photo of himself on social media during a throwing session in mid-May. Head coach Tom Allen is being cautious, and is uncertain if the signal caller will be ready Sept. 4 in Iowa, and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan has been vague about his progress, only saying the QB is "doing great" and "recovering and rehabbing", which, well, we already know.
A win at Iowa to open the season, even with Penix, will be a rather tall order. However, as the Hawkeyes slide back into the non-conference schedule, they should be able to easily push past Idaho and Western Kentucky. An afternoon game Sept. 18 against Cincinnati will feature a nice quarterback battle, but one which the Hoosiers should be able to win at 'The Rock' in Bloomington.
A trip to Happy Valley Oct. 2, and a home date against Ohio State on Oct. 23, will make for a very difficult month of October. The Hoosiers traditionally have had a difficult time at the Big House against Michigan, and that's where their November will begin.
The rest of the schedule will feature winnable games at home, with the season wrapping up against rival Purdue, renewing acquaintances for the Old Oaken Bucket. Last season's traditional rivalry game at the end of the regular season was wiped out due to COVID, marking the first time the Hoosiers and Boilermakers didn't play each other since 1919, when they didn't play two years in a row due to the Spanish flu pandemic. The Bucket resides in Bloomington for now.
This team has a very good chance of winning at least nine games during the regular season, and perhaps a total of 10 depending on its bowl matchup. As such, the OVER is a strong play, but watch for updates on the health of Penix before sinking a lot of money into a future wager. It would be stunning, however, if this wasn't at least a push. The Hoosiers will be a very good team again in 2021.

Indiana Odds to win 2021 Big 10 Championship
It's going to be a rather tall order for the Hoosiers to leapfrog Penn State and/or Ohio State, and they'll likely be jockeying for third place with Michigan.
Indiana Odds to Win 2021-22 College Football Playoff
With no likely conference championship appearance, a trip to the CFP is unlikely, too.
Indiana 2021 Heisman Contenders & Odds
Michael Penix, Jr. +6600
Penix was able to pass for 1,645 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions while running for two more scores. But he isn't much of a dual threat, and his health is a concern heading into the season. Your money can be better spent elsewhere.
