2022 Marshall Thundering Herd Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 MARSHALL THUNDERING HERD BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Marshall will play its first season in the Sun Belt Conference after a 7-6 SU 2021 season in Conference USA. First year for head coach Charles Huff ended in a disappointment after Marshall lost three of their last four games. Huff will return for his second season and will have talent returning as well as new talent coming in via the transfer portal. With proper execution and a little bit of luck, the Thundering Herd could make a statement in their first season as members of the Sun Belt Conference.

All-Conference USA running back Rasheen Ali (250 ATT, 1,401 YDS, 233 TDs) will return and will be accompanied by Florida State transfer Khalan Laborn (63 ATT, 297 YDS, 4 TDS). Texas Tech transfer Henry Colombi (QB) is looking to take over for Grant Wells, but there are a few other options out there looking to take over as QB1. Regardless of who takes the snaps, there will be plenty of talented options to throw to including leading wide receiver Corey Gammage (78 REC, 878 YDS, 2 TD) and Florida State transfer Bryan Robinson. Marshall’s defense, who held opponents to 24.0 PPG, is also set up for success with plenty of talent returning.

Marshall will open the season against Norfolk State followed by a trip to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Throughout the season Marshall will take on most of the top dogs in the Sun Belt including Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, and Georgia State. While that is not ideal, all those games will be played at Marshall which is huge for the Thundering Herd. For this reason, I not only like Marshall to cover their win total of 6.5 (-170), but a better bet with a little bit more juice is backing Marshall to win the Sun Belt (+375).

MARSHALL THUNDERING HERD ODDS TO WIN SUN BELT CHAMPIONSHIP

+375

As mentioned before, this is the best bet on the board for Marshall. Four of their six losses last season were decided by a touchdown or less. If they can manage to limit their turnovers, I expect those close games to go in favor of the Thundering Herd this season. Also, facing the tough Sun Belt teams at home will be a huge advantage for Marshall. Assuming they don’t lose any games to teams like Georgia Southern, the Thundering Herd are in prime position to make a run at the Sun Belt Championship.

MARSHALL THUNDERING HERD ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+100000

As much as I would love to see Marshall march into South Bend and take out Notre Dame in week two, a loss there should knock them out of any sort of contention for the National Championship. Even if they were to beat Notre Dame, the FBS committee would put a three-loss SEC team in the playoffs before selecting a Sun Belt team. There is no doubt Marshall has plenty of talent, but a National Championship is not realistic this season.

MARSHALL THUNDERING HERD 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS
