2022 Maryland Terrapins Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 MARYLAND TERRAPINS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Terrapins had a roller coaster ride in 2021. Maryland started out 4-0 SU/3-1 ATS in September, followed by a three-game skid against Iowa, Ohio State and Minnesota, kicking off an 0-7 ATS skid. The team rebounded with wins over Indiana and Rutgers to attain bowl eligibility, including a 40-16 win over the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway on the final Saturday of the season. The Terps turned that into a 54-10 win over Virginia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl in New York.

Head coach Mike Locksley has quietly pieces together a decent bit of momentum heading into 2022, and his recruiting class received rave reviews.

QB Taulia Tagovailoa is back after completing 68.4% of his passes for 3,595 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 12 regular-season games, while running for two others. Tagovailoa's top receivers, WRs Dontay Demus Jr. (28-507-3) and Rakim Jarrett (56-769-5), are also back. Demus Jr. posted the second-best numbers on the team despite being limited to just five games due to injury. The sky is the limit for the Maryland pass attack, as UMD also added WR Jacob Copeland, the top pass catcher for the Florida Gators in 2021, and TE Corey Dyches (18-201-4) is also an emerging threat.

In the run game, RBs Challen Faamatau and Colby McDonald return, and Locksley added four-star recruit Ramon Brown to bolster the run game, swiping him out of the state of Virginia from both UVA and Virginia Tech.

The defense was a work in progress, and continues to be so. The team has added Brian Williams (not the NBC news guy) as the new defensive coordinator, the fourth DC in as many years. The secondary has some solid returnees, including CB Deonte Banks, but the defensive line was crushed in the transfer portal. LB Ruben Hyppolite II is a standout, however, and the team added help at linebacker with Jaishawn Barham as a freshman, and Vandarius Cowan as a transfer from rival West Virginia.

Maryland will kick off the non-conference slate with three winnable games, looking to build upon momentum from last season's seven-win campaign and bowl victory. Trips to Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State will be difficult, as well as home games against Ohio State. But the other games are winnable, and a return trip to a bowl is certainly possible. The pass game will be top-notch, but can the secondary stop anyone? OVER bettors will especially want to pay attention to the Terps this season, as they should have plenty of high-scoring games.

MARYLAND TERRAPINS ODDS TO WIN BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP

+10000

The books are not looking at Maryland's bowl win and semi-successful season too favorably. Of course, Maryland is also in the same East Division as Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. The chances of the Terps appearing in the Big Ten Championship Game is the same as UCLA or USC joining...well, I guess anything is possible. But don't waste your money here.

MARYLAND TERRAPINS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+30000

Maryland will be battling to simply attain bowl eligibility, perhaps seven wins. The schedule sets up nicely for it to go bowling, but they're not going to be challenging for a spot in the College Football Playoff anytime soon.

MARYLAND TERRAPINS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS

Taulia Tagovailoa (QB) +10000

Rakim Jarrett (WR) +50000

Tagovailoa isn't going to win the Heisman Trophy. Even his brother Tua was unable to secure the trophy during his days at the University of Alabama. Taulia has a solid cadre of receivers, including Jarrett, and he is going to put up some nice numbers. But Maryland will lose too many games where he won't get legit consideration and a bus ticket to travel up I-95 to New York City for the festivities.
