2021 North Carolina State Wolfpack Football Betting Predictions

June 15, 2021

2021 North Carolina State Wolfpack Betting Odds, Predictions, Preview

Head coach Dave Doeren hasn't quite reached the heights he had at Northern Illinois, but the Wolfpack have grown to be a tough out in the ACC. They rattled off eight victories last season, and two of their four setbacks came by three or fewer points. So there are big expectations in Raleigh this season as a result.

The great news for Wolfpack Nation is that QB Devin Leary returns under center after missing several games in 2020 due to an injury. And he will have perhaps the league's best offensive line to operate behind, including LT Ikem Ekwonu and C Grant Gibson, two potential first-team ACC players. WRs Devin Carter and Porter Rooks give them two big-play possibilities on the outside, but the run game will need to be a big better. This team averaged 30.2 PPG last season, and will need to be even better if it wishes to make a jump to elite status.

The good news on the defensive side of the ball is that LBs Isaiah Moore, Drake Thomas and Payton Wilson are all back, but pass rusher Alim McNeil pulled up stakes, and that's a big loss for a team already struggling along the front and one which was gashed for big yardage on the ground. The Wolfpack coughed up 31.3 PPG in league games last season, and that needs to be chopped down significantly, too.

The non-conference home schedule features very winnable games against South Florida, Furman and Louisiana Tech, but a trip to Mississippi State on Sept. 11 will be no cake walk. Clemson also looms on the schedule Sept. 25 at Carter-Finley. In fact, a likely loss to the Tigers means N.C. State starts the ACC schedule 0-1. More losses could be on the horizon, as they have a trip to Miami late in October, and November games at Wake Forest, and a crossover home game against rival North Carolina on Thanksgiving weekend is tough.

N.C. State has the goods to compete for second place behind Clemson in the Atlantic Division. Don't expect much more than that. OVER 6 wins looks like a slam-dunk play, however. The schedule is tough, but not that tough. There are at least four games that are definitely wins, and finding three more victories along the way is a good bet.

North Carolina State Odds to win 2021 ACC Championship

Yes +1800

For N.C. State to make the ACC Championship Game would take a miracle, as something has to go absolutely awful in the upstate to derail Clemson. I just don't see it happening, and certainly wouldn't put any of my hard-earned money on it. You shouldn't either.

The Wolfpack are always a good team, capable of eight or maybe nine wins, but they're just not elite. They don't get the four- and five-star recruits to compete with the Alabama's and Clemson's of the world, although the fan base and alumni certainly think they do, or should. A second-tier bowl is in the future for the Pack, and with a win there it would be a successful season.
