2022 North Texas Mean Green Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Mean Green of North Texas wet awful in the first half of the season, going 1-6 with the lone victory coming against FCS Northwestern State. But UNT persevered, ripping off five straight wins, including three road victories, to attain bowl eligibility. Unfortunately for the Mean Green, it ended up losing 27-14 to a decent Miami-Ohio team in the Frisco Football Classic. However, the extra month of practices and team comradery should be a springboard into 2022.

The offense has eight starters back. QB Austin Aune completed just 51.7% of his pass attempts for 1,763 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions in the regular season. Both he and his backup QB Jace Ruder have competition in the quarterbacks room, as QB Grant Gunnell transfers in from Memphis. This is the third stop for Gunnell, as he started out at Arizona. While he has been around, he also has the most experience of the trio.

Whichever quarterback manages to get the nod from head coach Seth Littrell should have a solid array of weapons to work with. WRs Roderic Burns (54-715-4) and Damon Ward Jr. (15-241-2) are solid options, and WR Jyaire Shorter returns from a long-term injury to help out downfield.

The Mean Green need to replace RB DeAndre Torrey, who gathered 1,215 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2021. RB Ikaika Ragsdale (89-511-5) figures to step right into the starting job, and he averaged 5.7 yards per carry last season to just 4.9 for Torrey.

On the other side of the ball, the Mean Green was much improved from an atrocious 2020 season. Unfortunately for UNT it loses DEs Gabriel and Grayson Murphy, as both transferred out to UCLA. The pass rush will suffer mightily as a result. The linebacker corps is the heart and soul of the D, while the secondary has numerous questions.

The non-conference schedule isn't terribly challenging, and it would be interesting if Gunnell wins the QB job since UNT plays at Memphis, his old team. While the offense should be solid, the defense has plenty of holes. This has the potential to be a bowl team again, but 6-6 looks like the best bet, especially at even-money.

NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN ODDS TO WIN C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP

+1400

North Texas heads into its final season of CUSA play before moving to the AAC in 2023. It's now or never, as the Mean Green have been to the title game just once, losing in 2017 at FAU. Don't expect a championship season from UNT, as this team will be challenged just to get to bowl eligibility.

NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+200000

The North Texas men's golf team won the Division I national championship in four straight seasons from 1949-52. That's the extent of the school's national titles across all sports. For football, going bowling is the championship, and there is no serious thought that UNT will ever be joining the Alabamas, Georgias and Ohio States of the world in the CFP.
